ROHAN Tungate reckons the Swindon Robins are back ticking along nicely – just like his own equipment.

After failing to win in four Elite League meetings across late May and early June, Alun Rossiter’s side are back on the up as they look to cut the gap on current table-toppers Wolverhampton Wolves when the two teams meet at the Abbey Stadium tonight (parade 7.30pm).

The Robins made it three victories on the spin with a dominant 55-36 win over Coventry Bees at Blunsdon on Monday, Tungate producing a confident display, which saw him rack up an 8+1 haul.

With a little help, the 26-year-old has managed to iron out a few technical kinks that had been hampering his efforts and Tungate believes that it should now be all systems go.

“(Monday) was really good and everyone rode well, so it was good to get a good set-up,” said the Swindon rider. “I’ve had a few problems with my engine but it’s finally sorted out, so away we go.

“Just being on a bike a lot and getting used to everything, and being on top of everything has helped.

“I’ve got a new mechanic – he’s my mechanic in Poland – and he’s come over to help me. He’s putting a few things right with the bike and it’s all working out good.

“It’s one less thing that I don’t have to worry about when I have someone that’s good working on a bike and does a good job, so I’m happy with everything and I can only go forward, I think.

“Here was where I always wanted to be but it took me a bit to get going. I think I’m finding it better now and hopefully we can keep winning.

“We’re where we need to be. It’s going to be a bit tougher (tonight), I think, but we’re up for it and we’ll do our best.”

Tungate also paid yet another tribute to the team spirit that has knitted Swindon’s 2016 septet together.

He added: “We’re an awesome team and we all get along good.

“Doyley (Jason Doyle) is always helpful towards us and always giving us advice and stuff. We’ve got some of the best riders behind us and we all work together good.

“You can always be confident with his advice and it’s the same with the other boys. I’m happy with it.”

Meanwhile, Robins team manager Rossiter thinks that he simply needs to ask for more of the same when his team roll out the red carpet for the Wolves.

Wolverhampton ran out 48-44 winners when they last visited the Abbey on April 14 and tonight, will arrive with ex-Swindon men Nicolai Klindt and Scott Nicholls as guests, whilst also operating a rider reserve system for Swede Peter Karlsson, who is riding in his homeland alongside Jacob Thorssell – Joonas Kylmakorpi is also injured.

Rossiter said: “I don’t need to keep them going. I’m sure they’ll all be pumped up. The team talk will just be ‘boys, same again as on Monday’ – it’s as simple as that.

“It’s going to be a tough one but I believe we’re good enough to beat them this time. We’ve just got to work hard and make sure that we don’t slip like last time.

“I just think we’re doing what we’re capable of doing. I know what these guys are capable of and when Rohan Tungate comes to the party, it just makes the whole job easier.”
