HIS team may have dispatched the Elite League’s current table-toppers, but Swindon Robins team manager Alun Rossiter is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

The Robins sent the Wolves packing with a 50-41 victory at the Abbey Stadium, moving up to second with a fourth win on the spin, but the Swindon chief isn’t paying much notice to the shake-up at the top of the tree, even if his septet are motoring.

Skipper Jason Doyle top-scored with a 14-point haul while Charles Wright posted a fine 10+1 total after regularly stepping in for Stefan Nielsen, who injured his hands by falling in his first race of the meeting.

“It’s just another night. It’s another good win for the boys and they’re starting to show their form,” said Rossiter, whose team aren’t in action again until they travel to the Wolves on Monday, July 18.

“I don’t take too much notice of the league table at the moment. When it starts coming to the end, when we know where we’ve got to be, then I’ll start worrying.

“It’s always good (to get a win before a break). We’ve got time to re-group, get everything together, get the engines tuned and get ready for the next onslaught.

“We lost Stefan, so Charles came in and played the part and got a vital heat 12 win.

“As Stefan went into the fence, the handlebars bounced back and bent his thumbs back – it gave him a hell of a shock.

“I put Jason and Josh (Grajczonek) in the big one (heat 15) because with them (Wolves) at the top of the league, I didn’t want them going home with any points.”
