JUSTIN Sedgmen has called on his Swindon Robins teammates to forget the one point that is needed to secure a play-off place and do all they can to win at Lakeside Hammers tonight.

The Abbey Stadium side head to the Arena Essex Raceway knowing that a defeat of six points or fewer would be enough to extend their Elite League campaign.

However, should Lakeside win by seven or more points, it will be the Hammers who will be gate-crashing the after-season party.

A below-par performance at league leaders Belle Vue Aces on Wednesday night - Alun Rossiter’s men fell to a 52-40 defeat at the National Speedway Stadium - has left the Robins under no illusions at the size of the task that awaits them.

“It will be bloody hard,” Sedgmen said of tonight’s fixture. “Every meet is tough, but we have to block out what we need to get and just go and win the meeting then the job is done regardless of what goes on with the points.

“Lakeside is a hard meet. It will be tough, no doubt about it.

“We would have liked to have gone there and have a night off but we are just going to go there and do our best.”

The defeat at Belle Vue in midweek was another example of Swindon’s riders not putting in an all-round performance.

Rohan Tungate, who has moved up to heat leader, was the main man with a paid 15, while number one Jason Doyle, who suffered technical problems, and Sedgmen chipped in with seven points apiece.

However, both Nick Morris (2+1) and Josh Graczjonek (4+1) struggled as did the reserves Charles Wright (2+1) and Stefan Nielsen (3).

Sedgmen says that every single Robins rider will need to put a shift in this evening to make the play-offs.

“We have had this all year, everyone fires at different times,” the Aussie said. “Last time we were at Belle Vue everyone fired at the right time and we didn’t need Doyley (as the Robins won 50-40).

“This time I went pretty good, Rohan went good and Doyley is really busy and had a crash earlier in the week, so we need someone to back him up.

“It is weird sport. I don’t really know what to say - everyone fires at different times.

“Everyone needs to do their part but they are not – including myself. It is a tough.”

The Robins' history at Lakeside over the last five years has been a chequered one at best and they will be looking to go better tonight than they did back in July when they slumped to a 51-39 defeat.

Of the other nine fixtures in the last five years, the Blunsdon men have won four times, while they have only lost by less than seven points once in that period – the 47-44 defeat in March 2014.
