SWINDON Robins have made their second addition to next year’s team with the arrival of Adam Ellis on a one-year deal.

The 20-year-old joins the Robins from Poole Pirates and team manager Alun Rossiter expects his latest arrival to surprise a few people.

“I’m sure there is going to be a few eyebrows raised with this one but I’ve always been told to go on your instinct,” said Rossiter. “The fact he’s not very experienced will rock a few people, but the potential is there and with the help from Jason (Doyle) and a few other lads Adam can take big steps forward this year.

“Apart from this past year my selection of teams has been pretty good and we just missed out this year, sometimes you have to take a risk, but he is a risk worth taking.”

Despite his inexperience, the Robins chief believes Ellis will make a good impression in the SGB Premiership.

“He came on leaps and bounds last year and at the end of the season I saw him in Coventry at the Elite League Riders and he would’ve won three races in a row if his chain hadn’t snapped,” added Rossiter “It’s never easy to build a team with Jason’s average (13.14) and whilst everyone thinks there are a lot of riders out there it isn’t that easy.

“He’s got something about him, I know he’s not the finished article yet but he’s young, exciting and he’ll fit in well with what we are doing at Swindon.

“He’s a racer and I know he’ll battle so he’s a rider I have a lot of time for. I’ve seen what kind of damage he can do and I think he’s in for a big year.”

Ellis has also said he aims to prove the doubters wrong during his time at Swindon after he was given an average of 7.84 going into the season.

“Swindon should be a good move, the management team seem pretty good and I’ve always got on with Rossiter,” said Ellis.

“Since my new average came out there has been a lot of negativity from promoters and fans but when Rosco called there wasn’t any of that and he said it was what I deserved.

“So next year I am going to focus on proving him right and that he made the right choice by picking me.”
