SWINDON Robins rider Nick Morris is hoping for a fast start to 2017 as he returns to the bike for the Australian Individual Speedway Championships.

The 22-year-old Australian is back home for the winter months and will be competing in round one of the championship, which starts tomorrow morning at Adelaide’s Gillman Speedway Stadium.

The Canberra-born rider will be looking to improve on his fifth place finish last year, sandwiched between former Robins riders Rohan Tungate ad Justin Sedgmen in fourth and sixth respectively.

Morris accrued 48 points as he remained in the fight for the medals until the final round of four but ended up seven points behind eventual winner Brady Kurtz, of the Poole Pirates.

Last year’s championship kicked off at Loxford Park, New South Wales, where Morris finished a place outside the final seven berths on count back having accumulated nine points.

Morris responded in round two at Undera Park, Victoria, when he finished second to Kurtz in final A.

Round three was held at Gillman, the location of tomorrow's meeting, where Morris finished seventh to make final B but missed out on a final A spot.

It was the same fate in the final round at the Olympic Park, Victoria, when he finished behind Kurtz in final B to miss out on a shot at the medals.

The second round of the Australian Championship this year takes place at Mildura on Saturday, with further meetings at Undera and Kurri Kurri following on Wednesday, January 11 and Saturday, January 14, respectively.
