SWINDON’S National Trophy side will be bossed by a familiar name this season.

Lee Kilby, the son of Robins legend Bob, has been handed the role of manager with the Curson Consulting Sprockets who will race a handful of meetings this summer.

Kilby had already taken a role in the club's commercial department earlier this year.

“To be honest, it has been a bit of a dream of mine to manage a team and I’m on cloud nine to be asked to manage the Sprockets, “ he said.

“Dad managed the team in the early 2000s and it is a proud moment for me to follow in his footsteps.

“It is just the four meetings to start with, with home and away round-robin fixtures against the Isle of Wight and Plymouth, but I want to win and I will be taking it very seriously”

Robins team boss Alun Rossiter added: “I think Lee will be great. I can help him all the way and be there if he needs any guidance or direction.

“He knows speedway as it has been in his life from the beginning and I’m sure he’ll do a great job.”

Kilby has hinted talented youngster Zach Wajknecht is the target to lead the side as he is also part of the SGB Premiership team.

He said: “I’m hoping Zach will spearhead the team being a full time Robin in the Premiership this year, and he is eligible to ride for us as Lakeside are not entering the Trophy.

“Alun and I will sit down and discuss the riders available and we’ll be determined to put a competitive team on track that fits within the points limit.

“The rules dictate that I could swap and change the team for each meeting, but that is not my intention and I want to build a team that can gel, and that the fans can connect with.”

The club are also delighted to announce Curson Consulting as the Sprockets Sponsor for the 2017 Trophy.

Dale Curson, of Sprockets sponsors Curson Consulting said: “I am really looking forward to the Trophy and intend to travel to both away meetings as well as being at The Abbey for the home fixtures.

“I grew up in Norfolk and attended Kings Lynn for many years before relocating to Swindon. I love speedway and am really happy to be involved with the Robins and Sprockets.”

Meanwhile, Carpets 4 Less will be the official team title sponsors of the Swindon Robins in 2017.

The Carpets 4 Less name was pulled out after a draw held last night to decide the headline sponsors.
