Adam Ellis wants to help restore Swindon Robins’ play-off reputation in his first season at the Abbey Stadium.

The 21-year-old Brit linked up with Alun Rossiter after finding out he was surplus to requirements at Poole Pirates.

Ellis revealed that he initially thought Rosco wasn’t going to get back to him after the rider expressed an interest in joining Swindon.

“As soon as I found out I couldn’t ride for Poole I was on the phone to Rosco, telling him I needed a team place,” said Ellis. “To start off with he said he’d let me know and I was thinking ‘it’s not going to happen’. But luckily he called back and said he was interested.

“I get on really well with Rosco so it is something I am looking forward to.”

Following a reshuffle of the league, teams were given a 50-point average allowance ahead of the new season.

Skipper Jason Doyle was handed 13.46, Nick Morris was given 8.97, while Ellis arrives with an average of 7.84 and he claims it won’t affect him.

The former Lakeside Hammer is also hoping an improvement on last year’s form will help fire his new side to the play-offs.

“It is just a number. You have to go out there and do your best, I’ve prepared for this season more than for any before,” added Ellis.

“Last year was a good year. This year the league is a bit weaker so it will be interesting to see how the averages go.

“I’m just going to go there every week, try to score as many points as I can and enjoy it.

“That was the key last year. I was enjoying it more than I had been in the few years before that.

“Swindon are one of those teams who are in the play-offs most years so it was a big shock that they didn’t quite make it (last year).

“I know Rosco definitely wants to be in the play-offs and anything can happen once you reach them.”
