SWINDON Robins’ newest addition Dany Gappmaier admits he is looking to repay the faith shown by Alun Rossiter after arriving at the Abbey Stadium.

The 25-year-old is an unknown quantity to Rossiter after the Swindon chief admitted he went with his gut for his latest recruit as he personally hasn’t seen him ride.

Gappmaier’s inclusion signalled the end for reserve Emil Grondal, who left the club after making a difficult start to the new SGB Premiership season.

The Austrian currently rides for Championship outfit Berwick Bandits, whose number one this season is Swindon’s Nick Morris.

While the new arrival is aware of the step up, he says he is looking forward to the season ahead and working alongside Jason Doyle. “I’m excited for when the first meeting starts and racing on the different tracks in the Premiership, it is exciting,” said Gappmaier.

“It is a special thing for me to work with Jason and I will try to learn from him with the set-ups for all of his stuff. “I don’t have many goals (for the season), one goal was to be in the Premiership and have some good heats, that was the main goal but it is all new to me.

“Hopefully I can pay Alun back and I will do my best for the team.”

Gappmaier, who has an average of 6.74 in the Championship, said he was shocked when Rossiter first made contact.

“Alun asked me if I was interested in coming to Swindon and that was a great day for me,” added the 25-year-old.

“It was only after Alun called me that I saw he was the manager of Great Britain, it is so new to me I don’t know all the guys.”
