SWINDON Robins’ Adam Ellis admits he is looking to repay faith shown by Alun Rossiter after a turbulent start to his time at the Abbey Stadium.

The 21-year-old has struggled since his arrival from Poole Pirates, and with the team suffering an inconsistent start to the SGB Premiership, Ellis is more than aware that he needs to up his game for tonight’s meeting at King’s Lynn (7.30pm).

Monday’s meeting was the perfect chance for Ellis to kick on from an impressive display at the European Pairs Championship in the Czech Republic at the weekend, where he reached the semi-final win alongside Josh Bates, but he was robbed of the chance to keep the momentum going after the clash with the Somerset Rebels was postponed.

“It was a shame Monday was rained off. After a good weekend abroad I felt pretty good about it but there were only a couple more days to wait,” said Ellis.

“It has been a pretty tough start and after Saturday I had a real confidence boost. I got the engine out that I used and brought it back for Monday so it was a shame.

“I hope it is a turning point. I needed to get a good meeting under my belt, it felt good to win some races, it was nice.

Team boss Rossiter has recently warned his riders that they need to improve or changes will be made, with Emil Grondal being shown the door in favour of Dany Gappmaier.

“There has been a lot of pressure on Nick Morris, David Bellego and Jason Doyle so I’m hoping to turn it around and take the pressure off of them,” he said.

“Rosco has been good, a lot of guys have been sacked so far this year so I think I have been very lucky to be at Swindon where I have had more support than negative thinking. Hopefully, I can repay his faith in me by pulling my finger out.”

King’s Lynn has been a mixed bag for Ellis, who has enjoyed varied success at the Adrian Flux Arena.

“I’ve had some good meetings there and some bad ones but I am going on a high and I have no excuses,” he added.

“There is always pressure from fans, the team and yourself. I put pressure on myself and sometimes it doesn’t work. You only need one good meeting and your season can turn around, so I hope Saturday was that meeting.”
