SWINDON Robins reserve Dany Gappmaier made the cut to the next stage of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix qualifier after coming through yesterday's quarter final in Germany.

But there was no joy for Abbey Stadium teammate Bradley Wilson-Dean as he was eliminated in Abensberg, while former Swindon rider Peter Kildemand defied a broken foot to win the round.

Kildemand scored 13 points to book a place in the semi final stage, while Polish rider Mateusz Szczepaniak was second on 12, former SGP regular and Swindon Robin Hans Andersen pipping Austrian Gappmaier in a run-off for third after they tied on 11.

Warsaw wild card Przemyslaw Pawlicki and Swedish star Oliver Berntzon also went through and Czech racer Matej Kus, but Wilson-Dean could only manage five points to miss out, crashing in his two final rides.

The New Zealander said: “Of course I'm a little disappointed not to progress but the reality is this is only my second attempt at this level and I was up against seasoned campaigners who have been around a lot longer than I have.

“I scored five points which is two more points than I did at the same stage last season at King's Lynn so I'll try to take the positives.

“I was on the pace, riding hard and felt competitive. On another day I'd have walked away with eight points or more.

“I slid off when in third in my fourth ride when I hit a wet patch and got wrongly excluded from my fifth ride when for one moment I was leading overall winner Peter Kildemand before I was dumped on my backside pretty hard by the Swede Oliver Berntzon when I was holding second.

“I'm as sore as, and the bike is one hell of a mess. I've also lost my helmet which took a huge whack and is unsafe to use again.

“I didn't need that at this stage of the season and the trip will have hit me hard in the pocket. I'm hoping some sponsors will be able to help me get the bike back in track. I'm staying positive and will bounce back as I always do.

“I congratulate fellow Robin Dany Gappmaier who rode awesome to qualify and it was great to have former Finnish rider Kai Niemi offering advice in the pits and Lee Kilby managing my corner. We worked well together and my future GP team is coming together.”

The first semi-final is at Olching in Germany on June 15, which could leave Gappmaier's participation in the Robins' SGB Premiership home clash with Rye House on the same day in doubt, with the other semi at the Italian track Terenzano on June 17.
