SWINDON Robins boss Alun Rossiter is hopeful Nick Morris will be passed fit to race in tonight’s SGB Premiership clash at home to Wolverhampton Wolves.

Rossiter is already without number one Jason Doyle, who is sidelined with a foot injury suffered on club duty in Poland on June 18, with former Swindon skipper Troy Batchelor booked to guest in his place.

However, Morris could join Doyle on the absentee list as the Speedway Control Bureau look to enforce their concussion protocols.

Morris suffered a heavy fall while riding for Berwick Bandits in the SGB Championship last Friday, with SCB rules stipulating he must stand down for a nine-day period.

A subsequent brain scan has since shown the young Australian has suffered no adverse effects from that crash.

Rossiter believes that should see Morris passed fit to ride, however, the SCB are holding firm to their regulations.

“At the moment, the SCB are saying that Nick can’t ride, he should be out for nine days. My argument is that these guys are the experts and they are saying that he should be eligible to ride,” said Rossiter.

“The test was all clear. The neurologist at Ridgeway Hospital gave him a brain scan and said everything is fine. There are no issues.

“If the SCB want him to have another assessment before the meeting, I am more than happy to do that.

“I would like to think I could have Nick because the doctor is the expert. If he says he is not fit to ride, then I am not going to argue with him. If there were issues, I wouldn’t want to put his health in jeopardy.”

Wolves will also be without two riders for the meeting and Rossiter has been left irked by the fact the visitors have been able to draft in two guests, whereas the Robins have not.

“I have Troy in for Jason but I might have to do rider replacement for Nick,” said Rossiter.

“Wolves haven’t got Kyle Howarth because he is riding for Sheffield, so they have got Danny King in at number two, and Mark Riss was involved in a car crash over the weekend so can’t ride and they have drafted in Paul Starke in his place.

“That makes their team Freddie Lindgren, Danny King, Rory Schlein, Jacob Thorssell, Sam Masters, Paul Starke and Nathan Greaves.

“We are already up against it on a normal day but when they draft those riders in while we can’t have a guest, it makes us even weaker.

“Apparently the rule is that it’s a guest for your highest rider and then RR for your next rider down but these are the one and two riders in my team.

“I don’t understand the logic because we have got guests for every other position. It’s something we will be addressing at the AGM this year, that’s for sure.”

The meeting is Swindon’s first since the release of the new Premiership averages, meaning there is a change to their regular rider order.

Dany Gappmaier steps up to the main body of the team and rides at number two, with Adam Ellis, formerly a heat leader, taking his reserve berth. David Bellego is now at number three, with Bradley Wilson-Dean down to four.
