SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter believes Saturday’s thrilling British Grand Prix could not have gone any better.

As well as witnessing a spectacular show and plenty of pulsating races in Cardiff, Rossiter and the travelling Swindon supporters also got to celebrate a Robins podium finish as Jason Doyle claimed runners-up spot behind event winner Maciej Janowski.

Rossiter, who is also manager of the Great Britain national team, was delighted to see such an entertaining spectacle produced at the Principality Stadium and reserved special praise for his club captain Doyle.

The Australian defied an ongoing foot injury that still requires him to use crutches as well as a heavy fall in his second ride to roar into the final and fire himself to the top of the world championship standings at the halfway point of the season.

“It was an excellent event and it was a great advert for speedway in this country,” said Rossiter.

“The opening show with the girls and the pyrotechnics was a really exciting way to start it all off and then the racing was terrific after that. There were some blanket races, it was fierce, it had everything.

“It was a really good show and I am sure everyone enjoyed it, and to top it off from our point of view, Jason got second place, which was an amazing effort.

“For him to get onto the podium was simply about sheer will and determination. That is what Jason has got more than anybody else, I think.

“He has the edge there over his rivals. He is very single minded and has a pure determination to win. He is a big star.”

Another Swindon rider, Adam Ellis, also enjoyed track time in Cardiff, with the British youngster taking part in three heats as meeting reserve.

Although the 21-year-old was unable to register a point, Rossiter believes his young charge will benefit from the experience of going toe-to-toe with the sport’s premier riders.

“It will do him the world of good. He will learn from that and he will have learned from the World Cup earlier this month as well,” added Rossiter.

“You can’t afford to go in with second rate machinery, I am not suggesting he has that, but in these competitions, you really have got to have tip top equipment.

“Being involved in these types of events will stand him in good stead.”
