FRENCH ace David Bellego is feeling right at home at the Abbey Stadium as he continues to sparkle in his debut season with the Swindon Robins.

Bellego was amongst the winter changes made by team manager Alun Rossiter ahead of the 2017 campaign and the 24-year-old has not taken long to settle in at Blunsdon.

Only Swindon’s top two riders, Jason Doyle and Nick Morris, boast a better average than Bellego this season, with his strong start rewarded with a deal to make him a full-time club asset last month.

Swindon are currently in the midst of a seven-meeting winning streak in the SGB Premiership and will look to make that eight in a row when they host Poole Pirates this evening.

Should they triumph tonight, it would be their six in succession on home shale and Bellego’s performances have been a big factor as to why the Abbey is slowly becoming a fortress.

Bellego has won 16 heats at Blunsdon this season – the same number as skipper Doyle – and has only finished outside the points twice in 31 rides.

“I always wanted to ride for Swindon. Even before I signed here I loved the club and now I am a part of it, it means a lot to me. I am definitely a Robin at heart,” said Bellego.

“It is a really good track here at Swindon, it’s so nicely prepared.

“Fair play to the club, they have done a really good job with the track. It is always so consistent and so smooth. I really enjoy racing on it.”

Swindon’s superb run of form has carried them up to third in the Premiership table and well in the battle to qualify for the end-of-season play-offs.

Many of the recent wins were secured without Doyle as the Australian Grand Prix star was forced to rest up due to a foot injury, although he did return to Robins colours for the success away at Poole and at home to Rye House Rockets late last week.

Bellego admits there is a real buzz in the camp at present and is hungry to keep that going for as long as possible.

“We are really happy with the way the team is performing and how everyone is going at the moment. It’s all good, Doyley is back with us now and we are all on the gas,” said Bellego.

“We just need to not overthink things too much, just be focussed on what we doing and try to keep doing the same thing. If we do that, it should be good.

“We are really happy. We are working hard and we will just see where we are at the end of the season.”
