SWINDON Robins owner Terry Russell believes his side fear nobody as they continue to defy the odds in the SGB Premiership.

A run of eight wins on the bounce, including two victories against league leaders Belle Vue Aces, have seen Swindon climb from second from bottom to one place off the summit.

Many experts tipped the Robins to struggle in the Premiership at the start of the season, however, Swindon have struck upon a balanced side and Russell puts that down to the capture of Polish rider Tobiasz Musielak.

“It’s been a fantastic run and we look forward to next week, because we’ve got three meetings again and let’s hope we can keep that run in,” he said.

“To be sat here now, second in the league, with two home meetings in hand, it’s very nice.

“We were always one rider away from being a very good team, so just losing at home by a couple of points or getting a draw, which is all we were doing, but unfortunately it was making the crowd unhappy.

“I have had my eye on Musielak for a couple of years now. He came here a few years ago when the Bob Kilby meeting was cancelled because of rain, otherwise we would have signed him then.

“Wolverhampton got in front of us, so they got him.

“Once we realised we could fit him in, we were out in Poland to seal the deal and I think he has been a revelation.

“It really has been the missing link. We’ve had that one gap which we kept trying to remedy but once that rider came in, it made things balanced and turned things around.”

Swindon recorded eight wins on the spin with a comprehensive 22-point victory over Poole Pirates on Thursday night, the first time they have achieved such a feat since June 2007.

And, having seen a number of play-off sides through the years at the Abbey, Russell believes few can match the current crop for the passion they have for the Robins vest.

“The year we won the league, we had a super side here,” he added.

“We’ve had good teams here when we have made the play-offs, when we have had Zagar and Leigh Adams.

“There’s a few Poles out there - Zengota was one, who was a good rider who was particularly popular here but unfortunately his average is so high, we’ve never been able to bring him back in again, as keen as he is to come.

“Tobiasz and him are great mates and it is incredible that we have got another who is young and keen to be at Swindon.

“When we made (David) Bellego a full time asset, he sent me a text to say how honoured he was to be a member of the club.

“They all want to be here and they’re all happy here.”

Russell was unable to provide any update on the development of the new stadium, stating that it is in the hands of the stadium owners.
