ALUN Rossiter says his Swindon Robins side have nothing to shout about yet despite storming to the top of the SGB Premiership table last night.

Swindon survived a huge scare at home to Leicester Lions to record a 52-40 victory at the Abbey Stadium and make it 10 straight wins in British speedway’s top flight.

The Robins still have nine meetings remaining this season but look destined to be involved in the play-offs as they have now pulled 18 points clear of fifth-placed King’s Lynn Stars.

Rossiter believes only a catastrophic collapse can deny his team a top-four finish in 2017, but anything beyond that is impossible to predict.

“We are not getting carried away. Yes it is another fantastic result and you have got to be happy with 10 wins out of 10 but you have got to keep your feet firmly on the ground,” said Rossiter.

“It’s been quite a good week. We are top of the league, we are in the semi-finals of the Knockout Cup, so we are in a good place at the moment.

“Who knows what we can do because there is still a long way to go?

“In the play-offs, it starts all over again.

“I think we have got ourselves into the play-offs but we have still got to be grounded.

“Unless we do something absolutely stupid and everything goes wrong for us – and everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for us recently – touch wood, we will be alright and be in the play-offs.”

With his team sweeping all before them at present, Rossiter is keen to see the Swindon public get behind his troops even more and has urged supporters to pack out the Abbey Stadium for the remainder of the season.

“The support was fantastic tonight but I still think there could be more support, there is plenty of room out there,” said Rossiter.

“The people have criticised us for years now with the teams we have.

“We have a team that has won 10 on the bounce now so I still think the support could be a bit more but it’s down to them.”
