ALUN Rossiter saluted his Swindon Robins side’s professionalism as they went six points clear at the top of the SGB Premiership with a 53-37 triumph at Rye House this evening.

The Robins delivered a throroughly polished display in Hertfordshire, the home side having little answer to the leaders’ quality across the board as they racked up an 11th straight league triumph – believed to be a club record - to open up significant daylight at the top of the table.

Skipper-for-the-night Nick Morris led from the front with 12 points but across the board Swindon were superb, reserve Adam Ellis weighing in with nine points, guest Edward Kennett paid 11, David Bellego paid nine and Bradley Wilson-Dean paid seven.

Polish ace Tobiasz Musielak added eight before falling heavily in his final ride of the night, while even guest reserve Danny Ayres did his bit with paid three.

Rossiter agreed that his side had showcased their qualities adding: “We just dominated from the start and when we didn’t win races we packed in the seconds and third and that’s vitally important.

“Because the team is riding on a high, they raise their game like Chris Harris came in and raised his game (against Leicester on Thursday) and Edward Kennett came in (tonight) and raised his game, so I’m very pleased at the moment.

“Tobiasz (Musielak) had a bit of a tumble but he was riding really well. Considering he’s never seen the track, eight points from his first three rides is amazing.

“He’s a bit sore, but we’ve got a 10-day break now and it will give some of the boys the chanced to recharge their batteries and get their engines redone ready for a pretty hectic end of the month.

“I’d rather just keep going now but that’s the way it is.

“I can’t ask for any more, the boys are on a hell of a roll at the moment and I’m pretty stoked for everybody.''

If the hosts were hoping for any early encouragement they were sorely disappointed as Swindon made a storming start.

Musielak gated brilliantly in the opener and there was a terrific battle between Kennett – standing in for the injured Swindon skipper Jason Doyle - and Rockets’ Harris for second, which the Robins guest stubbornly won on the third lap to open up with a maximum.

Reserves Ellis and Danny Ayres then repeated the trick in the second against hapless Rockets Ben Morley and Luke Priest.

Rye House stemmed the bleeding in three as American Ricky Wells won the third, but with Wilson-Dean and Bellego tucking in behind, there was no heat advantage for the home side.

House gained their first heat advantage in four as British veteran Scott Nicholls comprehensively outgated the rest, Morris overcoming an iffy start to sneak second, but Morley easily taking third in front of Ayres.

Wells, the star Rockets performer, picked up the home side’s third race win in succession in heat five but again, Musielak and Kennett were more than comfortable in filling the minor places.

But the in-form Robins turned up the gas in the next two races to stretch their advantage.

Firstly, Morris was imperious from the gate in six as Ellis gave Harris a real battle before ceding second spot but nevertheless secured a heat advantage with third.

Then Bellego left the rest in his tracks in seven, Wilson-Dean seeing off some early interest by Nicholls in second place to secure the maximum and take the lead out to 12 points.

Musielak continued the good work in eight, the Pole in fine form out front and guest reserve Ayres doing his bit to grab third.

The Rockets hardly needed to shoot themselves in the foot, but succeeded in doing so in the ninth.

Sending the speedy Wells out on a tactical ride, they were first caught off guard by a brilliant piece of riding from Ellis to take the win, while Stuart Robson inexplicably declined to allow his double-points teammate to lead the pursuit, putting off the American to such an extent he ended up out back behind even third-placed Morris.

Swindon rubbed salt into the wounds – prompting an interval Rockets team talk – as Wilson-Dean and Bellego filled the minor places behind Harris to hand them a handsome 16-point lead with five races left.

Heat 11 required two goes as Musielak got out of shape and took a nasty tumble coming out of the first bend, subsequently making his way gingerly back to the pits.

With the Pole excluded, guest Kennett rode a hugely intelligent rerun, getting the drop from the line, then offering Nicholls no hope of a pass to ride away for victory.

Wilson-Dean also took a tumble out the back in the 12th and was excluded as Ellis diced with Wells up top.

The pair did likewise in the rerun, with the American getting the better of it, but Swindon slammed the door in style in the 13th, Morris totally dominant from the start and Kennett taking a comfortable second from the thoroughly beaten Nicholls and Harris.

Robson briefly raised from home cheer by winning 14 from a hard-chasing Bellego, but Morris got the better of Wells and Nicholls in the final race to emphatically drive home the Robins’ superiority.
