ADAM Ellis says Swindon Robins’ ability to deal with whatever misfortune comes their way underlines the confidence surging through the Abbey Stadium line-up at the moment.

The red-hot Robins are on a club-record 11-match winning run that has propelled them to the top of the SGB Premiership table and turned a campaign that started with many questioning whether they could finish away from the bottom of the table into one that has thrown open the possibility of a magnificent title triumph.

The personal journey of reserve racer Ellis carries echoes of his team’s own transformation from supposed no-hopers into all-conquering leaders, the 21-year-old suffering with early-season mechanical and fitness problems to bounce back to such an extent that he has only scored less than five points once in the Premiership since May.

Even the recent loss of skipper Jason Doyle and reserve Zach Wajtknecht - the latter for the rest of the season - to injury has failed to disrupt Swindon’s serene progress, the most recent guests for Doyle, Chris Harris and Edward Kennett, in particular slotting in seamlessly.

Ellis doesn’t believe the side’s incredible run needs too much over-analysis, insisting it’s simply a team at ease with itself and the job they need to do.

“It’s all going pretty good so far. I don’t think any of us at the start of the year expected us to be on such good form, but everything is ticking at the moment and it’s going great,’’ he told the Adver.

“It (11 wins) is a massive amount of meetings and the more meetings we win, the more confidence we get.

“Even without Doyley we’re still going out there and winning meetings, which is awesome.

“I don’t really know what it is, other than confidence. We’re all on a high, we’re all getting on good and the atmosphere is the best it’s been all year.

“It’s just enjoyable riding for Swindon at the moment.

“Everyone is pretty down to earth and just up for having fun riding bikes. When we’re winning we’re all having fun, so everyone is happy and everyone is getting on. That’s the way we like it.’’ A six-point lead at the top of the table, with five of their remaining eight regular-season meetings at home, opens up the real possibility that Swindon could secure top seeding and a choice of opponents in the play-off semi-finals.

But Ellis added: “For the past month or so, since we started going real good, we’ve just been looking at continuing winning. We haven’t really been looking at the league too much.

“We knew it was going to be tough to get up there but as long as we could carry on winning meetings we were going to get there sooner rather than later and now we’re top of the league we just need to carry on being consistent and winning meetings.

“We’ve proved we can all do it. We all want to go out there and score points and it’s important to keep the form up until the play-offs.

“If we’re still in this form in the play-offs it might be Swindon’s year.’’ The nine points garnered by Ellis at Rye House on Saturday was the latest haul in a purple patch for the former Poole Pirates rider, which included double-figure totals at King’s Lynn and at home to champions Wolverhampton and Belle Vue.

He added: “It’s going better. It’s getting there slowly. It’s not quite going as good as I want it to. We’re getting there bit by bit and I’m starting to enjoy it.

“Rye House isn’t one of my favourite tracks. I’ve had a lot of tough meetings and a lot of crashes so it’s nice to come back for the first time in two or three years and score nine points. I’m happy with that.’’
