SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter is not concerned by his side’s lack of track time so far this season, despite losing their fourth meeting due to poor weather last night.

The Robins were due to travel north to face the side they beat in last year’s SGB Premiership Grand Final - Wolverhampton Wolves - at Monmore Green for what should’ve been the club’s first league fixture of the year.

Although little rain actually fell in the afternoon in the Midlands, officials at Wolves took the decision to minimise inconvenience for travelling supporters and call the meeting off with poor weather forecast from 5pm onwards.

It means Robins’ Premiership campaign has been delayed by another three days after it was initially due to start on Thursday, March 29, against Leicester – a fixture which has been rescheduled for later this week.

Rossiter said: “You can’t do nothing about the weather I’m afraid.

“I’m led to believe we might get lucky for Thursday with a good long forecast.

“Calling the meeting off early is beneficial. If the meeting going ahead is 50/50, many people won’t go out.

“It costs people money. Tobiasz (Musielak) was already in England so he’s had a flight wasted.

“He’ll probably fly back home as I imagine he’ll have a flight pre-booked and then come back in for Thursday’s meeting.

“Other than that it’s not caused many problems.”

While the Robins haven’t raced as a team in almost three weeks, every rider has enjoyed track time with their other respective clubs.

Nick Morris and David Bellego both featured in Poland at the weekend while Adam Ellis and Zach Wajtknecht have raced closer to home.

Wajtknecht in particular impressed when top scoring in the first semi-final of the British Under 21 Championship at Eastbourne on Sunday.

And watching his men gather points away from the Abbey Stadium proves pleasing on the eye for Rossiter.

He said: “Both Nick (Morris) and David (Bellego) performed well, David scored a few points in a sparring match. Nick dropped a point on Friday, Adam and Zach scored well in their Championship meetings too.

“I’m not too worried about lack of track time. The boys are getting matches under their belt and they’re on a bike so I’m not too worried about it.

“There’s a new field in the Under 21s right now with Adam (Ellis) and Josh (Bates) moving on.

“I think Neil Vatcher is looking for riders to step up in class.

“If Zach (Wajtknecht) keeps improving he can hopefully win it.

“That’s why we bought him. We tried to buy him originally, but made a mistake not going through with that. But we got him in last year.”
