SWINDON Robins' SGB Premiership clash against Leicester Lions was abandoned in bizarre circumstances this evening, without a heat having been completed.

The meeting was called off barely minutes after it had got under way following a incident which saw three riders come off their bikes on the third bend of the Abbey Stadium track.

In murky and drizzly conditions, the usual pre-meeting parade was dispensed with in favour with getting the action under way, with Robins skipper Nick Morris and teammate Adam Ellis lining up against Lions number one Martin Vaculik and Michael Palm Toft in heat one.

Morris took the lead in the race, but then hit the deck on bend three, Palm Toft was then knocked by his teammate Vaculik as he tried to slow down.

Vaculik came off worse, with an ambulance being called and the Slovakian rider being placed on a stretcher, with a splint being applied to his left leg.

The meeting was subsequently called off, with rain cited as the reason, and neither side having yet completed a Premiership fixture, while the Robins haven't ridden since winning the Charity Shield against Belle Vue Aces on March 22.

No new date for the rearranged fixture has yet been revealed.
