Swindon Robins boss Alun Rossiter intends to keep top spot

SWINDON Robins chief Alun Rossiter says his team have upped their Elite League ambitions after they came through a nervy test at Belle Vue Aces last night.

The Abbey Stadium outfit increased their lead over second-placed Wolverhampton Wolves to five points after they sneaked maximum points in Manchester with a 50-40 win.

The victory was Robins’ ninth Elite League win in a row, and Rossiter says the result has given himself and his septet the belief that they can take top spot from Midlands outfit Wolves.

“Our goal has always been the top two but now our focus is on top spot. Now I think we’ve got to step it up,” he said.

Robins extended their lead over Wolverhampton despite their rivals taking a 50-42 win at home to Eastbourne.

Wolverhampton though, can still afford to feel confident as they have a meeting in hand over the Swindon outfit.

Robins recovered from a nightmare start last night which saw them 10-2 down after the first two heats.

They eventually went ahead in heat 11 and in-form riders Leigh Adams (paid 13) and Matej Zagar (12) were instrumental in their maximum points haul.

Ryan Fisher (paid 12) and Simon Stead (paid 10), on his former home track, also impressed.

“I was a little bit nervy early on but once the boys got dialled in it was comfortable,” said Rossiter.

“I just felt we had the strength in depth and we knew we had the riders (Adams and Zagar) coming on strong at the end.”
