New-look logo for the Robins

GIVES YOU WINGS: The new Swindon Robins logo GIVES YOU WINGS: The new Swindon Robins logo

SWINDON Robins have decided to mark the start of a new era for the team by unveiling their new logo.

The updated design, which shows a Robin face on with its wings spread wide, replaced the old logo that has been a symbol of the team since 2004.

With much having changed at the Robins since the debacle of last season, team manager Alun Rossiter believes the new logo perfectly encapsulates the start of a new era for the Blunsdon-based side.

“When we re-opened back in 2004 we had a new Robin logo but people never really took to it,” said Rossiter.

“It got berated over the years so with a bad season last season we thought about having a look at it.

“The new logo has had a lot of thought gone into it and we feel it is more modern now.

“We could have gone retro but we wanted a design where the Robin was in flight. We didn’t want a fighting Robin as we didn’t feel the need to give an aggressive impression.

“It will probably not be for everyone’s tastes but I’ve seen it a number of times now and it has really grown on me.

The new logo was designed by Jo Parry and will be on the team’s race suits for the coming season.

“Jo did a great job with the design,” added Rossiter.

“Everyone has put a lot of effort into it and I feel it symbolises a fresh start and a new beginning.

“It is subtle, professional and really nice and I am really sold on it.”

Meanwhile, another rider has been confirmed for the Bob Kilby Memorial Trophy.

Sebastian Ulamek, who was with the Robins for a year from 2006, will be back in Swindon for the opening meeting of the season on Sunday, March 18.

He joins Rider of the Year Nicolai Klindt and triple World Champion Nicki Pedersen.

Pedersen, who won the event 12 months ago, won’t be riding in the Elite League this season, so it represents a rare UK appearance in 2012.

Hmmm, i'm not a fan of that at all. I prefer the red swallow.
Somebody at the club must have seen a robin in real life, surely, yet they seem to consistently fail to come up with a convincing logo!

I keep taking a look to see if it has grown on me. Nope.
Its horrible. It has zero design appeal and even less marketing potential.
They should have thrown it open to the supporters to see if they could have designed something.

Looks more like a crow I could design something better myself to be honest. No not for me and will not grow on me at all.

I like the design on Rocky biscuits. Next time you are in a supermarket take a look.
Something such as that would have had great potential on merchandise.
This Parrot/Crow thing needs feeding to a cat.

Its an Amazonian Red Breasted
Kite - these are becoming rarer especially near the top of league tables. Effort is being made to restore their natural environment but rumour is the Lesser Spotted Russell Grader is tending to it this year and it will remain alien to this species

Look at the robin on the Bob Kilby advertisement on the Swindon Robins web site - thats what I call a robin. Its just plain and simple and resembles a robin. There's nothing wrong with learning from the past!!!

It looks like its surrendering! Considering what the team's did under Rosco it does seem rather apt now that I think of it.

It looks like a Robin flat on his back to me. Hope that isn't ominous.
