NETBALL may not be an Olympic sport, but that didn’t stop teams from inspiring people in Wharf Green to take it up.

Pinehurst Netball Club, Raychem Netball Club, Croft Netball Club and Delta Reds Netball Club took part in sessions in the town centre and encouraged children and adults to join them.

It was part of a series of events in Wharf Green over 16 days to inspire more people to take up sport.

Kim Bedry, junior coach at Raychem Netball Club, said: “We are trying to showcase netball, particularly as it is not an Olympic sport at the moment. The idea is to promote netball and encourage children and adults to join the club.”

Stacey Richmond, 17, who is goalkeeper and goal defence for Pinehurst Netball Club, said: “We have been involving members of the public and they have been having a go at shooting. We have also been telling them how they can get involved in netball.”

Martial arts will take place in Wharf Green today from 11am until 3pm, and tennis will take place tomorrow.

Adults and children who want to join Pinehurst can visit www.pinehurstnetball.co.uk, to join Croft phone 01793 522610, to join Raychem email k.bedry@ntlworld.com or to join Delta Reds email HelenG7@sky.com.
