SWINDON Dolphin progressed to the final of the Bristol and West KO Cup courtesy of a thrilling 15-13 win over Frome at Milton Road.

The home side were virtually at full strength for the tie, but started two goals down due to the handicapping system.

Efforts from Matt James, Andy Strong and Ian Brewer ensured Dolphin trailed by two at the break.

Strong words in the Swindon camp reaped immediate rewards as goals from Chris Selby, Michal Trzeciak and Strong, in response to a single strike from Frome, levelled the scores.

However, sloppy play led to three unanswered goals for Frome and allowed the visitors to take control at the halfway point.

Dolphin started the third period strongly but this time they maintained their form.

David Quinlivan was strong in defence and Frome’s drive players were well-marked by Fraser Durston, Dan Dixon, Mark Lawlor and Lambros Glavopoulos.

The attack was much more threatening with Andy Hicks supporting James and proving a handful for the visiting defenders.

Clinical finishing led to Dolphin winning the quarter 6-1 and they did not let their grip loosen in the final period.

Goals from Quinlivan, James and Trzeciak cancelled out three strikes from their Wiltshire rivals as Dolphin advanced to the final.

Captain Hicks said: “The performance wasn’t our best of the season, but the end result is what matters.

“Every single member of the squad played their part and I was pleased at how we bounced back after some poor periods of play.”
