WILL Davies continued his impressive form at the British Gas ASA National Championships in Sheffield at the weekend.

The 13-year-old Swindon Dolphin, who had smashed his personal best in the 1,500m freestyle by 13 seconds, went to set a new fastest time at Ponds Forge in the 400m free.

The teenager came home in four minutes 30.46 seconds, two seconds quicker than his previous best, on Sunday.

But Davies was not the only Dolphin in action in south Yorkshire over the weekend, as 12-year-old Olivia Flack competed on both days.

On the Saturday, Flack, who had raced on the Wednesday in the 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke, swam in the 100m backstroke clocking a time of 1:13.37.

Then 24 hours later, the youngster was back in the pool for her fourth event - the 400m free - and she recorded a time of 5:14.80.

Swindon Dolphin also saw 18-year-old Beth Crouch compete in the three kilometre open water race and she came home in 13th place, while in the Masters Helen Hanks won her age group event in the open water Dolphin coach Louise Clayton said: “The three who went in the pool did exceptionally well at their first national event.

“Will got two PBs, two club records and that is a credit to the hard work that he has put in over the last 12 months.

“He has gone from being a county qualifier to a regional competitor to now finishing inside the top 10 in the country in 1,500m - he has made massive strides.

“Now that the age group events have finished it is now up to the youth swimmers to finish the season strong and build on the success that we have already had in Sheffield.”

Swindon Tigersharks also had two swimmers at the Open Water event with 14-year-olds Tivy Durrant and Luke Morgan both going in the 1.5k swim yesterday morning.

After impressive swims, Durrant came home in 17th place in her race, while Morgan did well to finish in ninth.

Tigersharks coach Lesley Leffers said: “They both did really, really well in what were tough races.

“You really can’t judge what a personal best time would be in the open water because the conditions change all the time, but what you can tell is how well they both swam.

“Just to get to the Nationals is a massive achievement, they were both superb and it is something where they should both proud be of what they have achieved.”

Swindon Dolphin will have six swimmers at Sheffield for the second week of competition as the older age groups take centre stage.

Rebecca Flack and Charlotte Gardo will be swimming in the 50m breaststroke in their respective 15/16 and 17/18 age groups on Wednesday.

James Clark, Lauren Matthews and Mathew Sambrook will be in action on the Friday in the 100m freestyle, 200m butterfly and 1,500m free respectively, while Pitts and Clark will be in action on on the Sunday.
