TIGERSHARKS have been crowned 2015 Wiltshire Winter League champions following a decision by the Wiltshire ASA to call off the final round to accommodate the county championships.

The title was therefore decided on positions at the end of the third round, with Tigersharks sitting top of the table after winning all three of their galas.

In the first round, they travelled to Salisbury and faced defending champions Trowbridge. Tigersharks were in superb form to win the gala and take an early lead in the league.

Round two was at Wroughton and although Tigersharks won the gala, a strong performance from Trowbridge elsewhere saw them climb to the top of the table.

In the final round at Calne, Tigersharks were in blistering form and won 26 of the 39 races, with the performance proving crucial as they scored the highest single number of points in any one round, making up the deficit on Trowbridge and returning to top spot.

Mia Smith and Sam Dubarry collected the trophy at the Wiltshire County Championships, an event at which Tigersharks performed well across the board.

Rebecca Cook took a clean sweep of victories in the 16-year-old breaststroke events, all in Regional Qualifying Times (RQT) as well. She went close to repeating that in the medley events but was denied by team-mate Rebecca Maddocks, who took the 100 IM title.

Jasmine Poole just missed out on the 400m free title but still clocked a RQT and backed that up with another RQT in 200m IM as she claimed bronze.

There were also medals for Alex Boxall, Abigail Cook, Laura Edwards, Oliver Howitt, Luke Morgan, Bethany Wakefield and Elliot Willoughby.

In the 12-year-old boys’ age group, Andrew Smith went to the top of the South West rankings in the 200m fly with a superb swim for victory, while Marshall Fitchett sealed the 13-year-old 200m fly title in a RQT and also made the grade in the 400m IM.

Dina Nejkic won all of the 12-year-old girls’ breaststroke titles, while Gabriella Doughty matched that in the backstroke events. They were not alone in their success as Poppy Turner took her first county title in the 200m fly in an RQT and backed this up with silver and bronze in the 100m and 50m fly respectively, also both in RQTs. Matilda Hart claimed 100m backstroke bronze, while Alexander Reeves also scored an RQT.

For the 11-year-olds, James Andrew took silver in 100m free in a RQT, with Ryan Lawrence just outside the require mark. Andrew also won gold in the 400m free and Lawrence was again close to an RQT in the 100m backstroke.

Tigersharks took a 1-2-3 in the 11-year-old girls’ 200m fly through Grace Osman, Juliet Durrant and Ella Reindl. Amelia Skitrall and Leia Griffiths also claimed medals at the meet.
