SWINDON’S Jazz Carlin had to settle for a silver medal in the 800m freestyle at the FINA Swimming World Cup series in Doha.
The 25-year-old finished two-and-a-half seconds behind New Zealander Lauren Boyle, who came home in a time of 8.24.76.
Carlin, who has recently moved to Bradford on Avon, made a good start, touching in the lead after the first length ahead of German Sarah Kohler by 0.02 seconds.
Boyle, who has a better personal best than Carlin, took the lead at the 300m mark but Carlin took just 50 metres to regain her narrow advantage.
At the halfway stage Boyle was back in front by 0.2 of a second with Kohler keeping pace with the duo in third.
The New Zealander kicked on in the second half of the race and with 100m to go had extended her lead to almost two seconds over Carlin.
Boyle further extended that advantage in the closing 100 metres as Carlin finished second with a time of 8.27.25, with Kohler finishing third 8.28.76.
