JAZZ Carlin produced a stunning final 50m to make it a double gold at the European Short Course Swimming Championships with victory in the 400m freestyle this afternoon.

Swindon star Carlin, who now lives in Bradford on Avon, clocked a new personal best time of 3mins 58.81secs in Netanya, Israel to beat Hungarian Katinka Hosszu by just 0.03secs. Boglarka Kapas, also of Hungary, was third in 3:59.02.

The victory follows Carlin’s victory in the 800m freestyle on Thursday and matches her European double at last year’s long course championships in Berlin.

Hosszu and Carlin were the two fastest qualifiers from Sunday morning’s heats and were neck and neck in the race for gold again.

Carlin looked to have made a decisive move on the halfway mark but Hosszu came storming back and led by 0.25secs heading into the final 50m.

However, Tigershark swimmer Carlin was not to be denied and pipped Hosszu on the final stretch to the wall to triumph by a slender of margin.
