JAZZ Carlin tuned up for what she hopes will be a breakthrough week for her Olympic Games hopes by winning the British 200m freestyle title in Glasgow tonight.
The 25-year-old, from Swindon, who now lives in Bradford on Avon, came home nearly half a second ahead of the field in the final at Tollcross International Swimming Centre this evening.
University of Bath-based Carlin, who missed out on the 2012 Olympics in London after her build-up was curtailed by a bout of glandular fever, clocked 1:57.62 to finish ahead of Eleanor Faulkner (City of Sheffield).
City of Leeds' Georgia Coates, who had pipped Carlin home as the fastest qualifier in the morning heats was third.
Carlin said: "It's always the fun one. I've not got the most speed so it is all about getting stuck in and racing the best girls in Britain.
"It's always nice to come out on top and hopefully we can do a good relay this year.
"I have got the 800m tomorrow and the 400m later in the week so it is an exciting week and I am just happy to be here and enjoying it."
Carlin's time was outside the Olympic qualifying mark of 1:55.88 set by British Swimming, but the Wiltshire competitor is unlikely to contest the 200m freestyle in Rio anyway.
Her strongest events are the longer 400m and 800m freestyle, the latter getting under way tomorrow in Scotland.
