SWINDON’S Jazz Carlin has booked her place in this evening’s final of the 200m freestyle in her first event at the British Swimming Championships.

The 2016 double Olympic silver medallist, enjoyed a successful winter training in Mexico, before returning to the pool in Sheffield this week.

And she picked up where she left off last year as she secured a place in the final, an event she won at the same competition two years ago, with a time of two minutes 0.99 seconds.

The 26-year-old, who now lives in Bradford on Avon, secured a season’s best time of 1:57.62 on her way to gold two years ago.

However, started this morning’s heat seven at a more leisurely pace and was not in the top three at the first turn as Hattersley lead the first 50 metres out in 28.22 seconds.

Carlin, stepped up a gear after the turn and was leading by 0.05 of a second at the hallway mark, in a time of 59.12 seconds.

The Tigersharks swimmer had extended her lead to 0.29 seconds heading into the final 50m and clocked a fifth fastest time overall to secure her place in tonight’s final, with the evening session starting at 6.30pm.
