PDC: Keep your heads
6:00am Monday 19th November 2012 in Local By Sam Morshead
ON TARGET: Two-goal James Collins
PAOLO Di Canio has called on his senior players to help him keep his squad focused as they prepare to entertain Brentford just three days after crushing Yeovil 4-1 at the County Ground.
Two goals from James Collins and one apiece from Darren Ward and Andy Williams handed the Glovers a hiding, but Di Canio wants total concentration when the Bees come calling on Tuesday night.
That, he insists, means forgetting Saturday’s victory and starting afresh. And he hopes the elements of experience within his playing staff will assist in the task at hand.
He said: “Now we have won at home after a few games when we didn’t win. We can look forward now to the next game on Tuesday night in a positive way because if we have the ability and quality to recharge the batteries quickly we can make satisfaction to ourselves and the fans.
“This is the only problem when you play every three days. When you are doing a good job or a fantastic job, if you don’t cancel the performance straight away and keep talking about the goals to your teammates for the next few days when you arrive at the moment when you have to focus maybe it’s too late.
“I need help from my adult players who have more experience than the others and fortunately this year we’ve got a few, and then the job is done.
“It will be a tough week for us but it is normal, against any side it is tough. I prefer to play against Brentford, Notts County or Sheffield United because it is easier for me to prepare the game when you play sides close to you or above you.
“The players are more focused, this is natural, but we have to be strong and good like we did today. There is the risk that you can underestimate and fall down on a banana skin. We didn’t do this today, I am very pleased.”

Again Tuesday will be another tough match,still you get the feeling the squad have the ability to do the job.
as to Notts County will History repeat it'self?????YES for ure and if the Town will win these 2 games I think they will take some stopping.
Never been a big fan of Pdc however who can doubt what he is trying to do and his comments on Chris martin made me laugh, we need to get him fitter and eat a lot less.Far way from his normal assments of players so will be listening in on Tuesday reception permitting

For a player who is clearly carrying too much weight, I thought he had a cracking game. What would he be like if we get him properly fit? More worryingly, will we get much benefit from it, or will he just go back to Norwich a better player and do the business for them instead?

Den - I doubt he will be getting back in the Norwich team anytime soon - been out on loan too much recently (i.e was out last year at Palace)
.
They clearly feel his level is Top L1 /Championship and have moved on
.
Also Martin's comments about playing to win a contract doesn't suggest it is a fitness thing him being out from Norwich
.
The comments from Collins sugest we will get a benefit - he said you can see the quality and that makes you raise your game - then he and Williams net 3 the first game Martin is here!
.
That is what I was talking about when saying we needed extra bodies to freshen thesquad up during our injury crisis - the new face freeing up options kick starts players again

Trying to compare Town managers is worse than that - it's impossible, as they were all working under different circumstances. Iffy Onuora might have done OK if he had the luxury of the budget we have today and wasn't shat on by having that nice Ron Atkinson brought into the club. People might now have been looking back on PDC as a complete disasater if he had been operating in the same conditions.

Paolo is correct keep your heads , Quote Rudyard Kipling .
"if"
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

Of course a lot is lost in translation but you seem to realise that and still miss that what he says is well thought out and said for a reason.
He says out loud what other people think. Blunt and to the point.
He keeps players feet firmly on the ground, doesn't let any player get big headed and hero-worshipped (like Austin) hence why not one player is safe from his rants (Foderingham) or the exit door (Caddis). The players know that and still the dressing room is as good as I've ever seen it. They're a team with not one player standing out, acting bigger than the rest. They all play for each other, support each other if not picked and are ready to fit into the team if they are. Something very special has happened at our club, turned us around, and there's only one person to praise and thank for that. The person you so often direct your snide comments at!
He's had a couple of games praising the players so expect them/someone to get another b*ll*cking within the next few games. It's his way of keeping them focussed and, from where I'm sat, it seems to work.
Just try to read between the lines and see more of the positives in PDC for a change. We're so very lucky to have him and, unfortunately, it won't be forever.

A lot of focus will be needed but I'll be very pleased to see Collins trying to repeat his two goals. I don't expect to see Williams, in fact I hope he sits this one out so not to aggravate his knee injury and then get a sustained run alongside Collins. As for Pdc you get the feeling he will get them promoted great if he does yet he is still learning.
As to Teneriife saying read between the lines well guess he is right,but it's down to how each and everyone of us seei.

We have that now and I think the squad is certainly stronger for it!
.
Plus with Navarro back in light training and looking like being back in contention for Donny we should strengthen again
.
Maccelsfield could have done us a favour really as our mini Pre-season coming up could sharpen a lot up and really allow the team to bond (i.e the newer boys who missed June)

Sometime when you're feeling important;
Sometime when your ego's in bloom
Sometime when you take it for granted
You're the best qualified man in the room,
Sometime when you feel that your going
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these simple instructions
And see how they humble your soul;
Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out and the hole that remains
Is a measure of how you'll be missed.
You can splash all you wish as you enter,
You may stir up the water galore,
But stop and you'll find in a moment
It looks just the same as before.
The moral of this quaint example
Is do just the best that you can,
Be proud of yourself but remember,
There is no indispensable man.

Sometime when your ego's in bloom
Sometime when you take it for granted
You're the best qualified man in the room,
Sometime when you feel that your going
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these simple instructions
And see how they humble your soul;

As poetry seems to be the order of the day, I thought I'd add one of those that I like. I won't add any comment.

red white wrote:Not the comparison game again! They say comparisons are odious.

Again Tuesday will be another tough match,still you get the feeling the squad have the ability to do the job. as to Notts County will History repeat it'self?????YES for ure and if the Town will win these 2 games I think they will take some stopping. Never been a big fan of Pdc however who can doubt what he is trying to do and his comments on Chris martin made me laugh, we need to get him fitter and eat a lot less.Far way from his normal assments of players so will be listening in on Tuesday reception permitting GO REDSHow can you not be a fan of PDC? He's brought us great success, we play (mostly) good to very good footy. He's passionate, committed, cares about the club. Yes he may shoot from both hips at times but that's the man. I'm claiming legendary status like some, but come on you can't help but being a fan. Off football, his little wiggle to the Yeovil fans was pure genius... * Who have you been a fan of? Wilson? Hart? Malpas? Iffy?
Irrelevant but here goes;
4th Hart
3rd Malpas
2nd Iffy
1st Wilson
Make that 4= Hart and Malpas..
No one says Go Reds either!
.
It could be argued that the only one of the five that we really know is Wilson, as he was with us long enough to show the best and worst of what he can do.
Iffy deserves better than that with the weight of the crap board he was carrying on his shoulders I have nothing but respect for him. Top bloke who never stood a chance from the start..
