The heart says win, the head says draw. Optimistic but Oldham seem to be doing alright at the moment. Hope we take the positives from the last game and play in the same way, if we do and with some more clinical finishing there's no reason we can't get a win today. Some big games for the rest of the top eight as well, would be surprised if there's not some movement in the table by five o clock.

This is meant as positive although I expect one in particular to see it as negative. I'll be happy with a solid point today given our decent defence but none to brilliant goal scoring ability right now. I'm hopeful things will change for the better. Good luck today chaps.

All I can think is a 2.2 keeps popping in my head, think come mid jan if we around the play offs positions I'd be pretty happy, I don't think promotion this season will actually be a good idea as unlike most fans I don't think we even close to being ready with this squad and I don't think we should expect the club to pump more money in to the squad whilst Paolo is in charge as to be honest in the whole he's been very wasteful in signings, we do have a decent top half lg1 side but with his budget i can't say I'm surprised, can we sustain throwing that sort of money about though with out letting so many players (you know the list Magera/Connell/Roone
y/Cox etc) go for a loss? Sometimes a huge loss for a club at our level? Simple answer, No! I like Paolo and I like some of what he's done, discipline is important, team mentality is important, but being able to admit you are wrong and not blame everyone around you constantly is also a key attribute in life not just football.. Humility is worth more to you now Paolo than digging at the board, baiting Mr Bodin who's a real legend of this town, and basically telling us all we lucky to have you as our coach, we aware your contacts and profile is great for us but we also know that the longer your rants and childish actions come out the more fans lose faith in you... Sorry rant over, we all love Swindon and we all want success, but no man is bigger than the club Mr Di Canio

Strange one that, seen every home game league and cup, have to say even when we have not been at our best the games where we have dropped points, we should have got something out of it, as IMO there is not a game I have seen that I thought the opposition were better. In fact I would go so far to say the best team I have seen this season at the CG was MK Dons who were matching us until their captain saw red.

Agree 100% with your comment a better home results would have seen us at the top of the league.

As goes the other subject, I haven't even read the article. As you would say, he does what he wants. I'm very pleased for RDV, but sadly he was again subbed by Roberts, very predictable.

From above,

90 minutes: Ritchie and Miller both have efforts blocked, before Roberts fires over. Still not tested Simpson. Seven minutes of added time, which at the moment is painful to watch.

Painful to watch, was that Roberts firing over the bar ??????

Still not tested Simpson. Seven minutes of added time, which at the moment is painful to watch. Painful to watch, was that Roberts firing over the bar ?????? the wizard

OTR me too I'll eat the pie but dont think we'll have to worry - with the one on one chances Willo has had he clearly lacks the skill to round a keeper to slot home.

Team looks ok, but without Bostock and Storey, it looks like we could be heading more for a draw, as opposed to a win.”

Mmm still a way to go but pleased to say at the moment you're wrong :)

Just wondered why you've not commented about PdC's gesture to waive fees for image rights - perhaps it's a too positive slant and you just can't seem to find it in you to praise him these days -just a thought :)
So very pleased to come home and find that I was wrong and yet again we have done so well away from home, one point would have been ok, three points so much the better.

It never does take you long to continue your personal digs at myself which still leaves me to believe you also post as somebody else as well, your old habits die hard. I also notice you didn't comment on my reply yesterday.

Just got back from the game and it was a very comfortable win. At times we created some great moves, little one twos and overlaps but unfortunately the final ball wasn't always there and Williams and Martin seemed to lack confidence. We could and should have murdered them in the second half especially when they went down to 10 with a makeshift keeper.

Having said that some really good parformances and the ones that stood out to me were Ritchie, DeVita and Thompson. The latter didn't let Montano get a sniff. The latter skulking off half way through the 2nd period a very dejected player.

Ferry buzzed around as ever but still doesn't look threatening going forward. Thought Hollands played really well in the holding role, Ward was solid and Devera was excellent (probably one to add to the stand out performances). Fods was great and dealt confidently with anything their weak attack were able to throw at us.

It was good to see Macca back and he did pretty well in the left back position, overlapping well with DeVita.

Collins, Roberts and Miller came in pretty late on and Miller looked good, the other 2 not able to contribute a great deal.

A good win that keeps us well in touch. We looked comfortable but will be tested much harder most weeks.

Overall MOM for me was Ritchie.

Well done to the lads today. We know by now that Pdc is either all up or all down - there's nothing in between. So, all the fans and the Board have to stay 100% behind him. He's the best chance we have and it's going to be tight all the way to the end of the season. The only thing he hasn't done so far is to find a 25 goal a season striker. If only we were able to convert more of the guilt edged chances that we create then we'd be clear at the top by now. I know Pdc has made some average/poor signings but he's also made some exceptionally good ones. It's just that missing link - someone who puts them away with composure and calmness in front of goal. Maybe Willo will come good but that's more in hope than expectation. If we can get on a run now with all these big games coming up we can put ourselves in a great position but look out for Coventry. I look forward to the 'next episode of Pdc' in a way that I have rarely done in 54 years of supporting STFC. No other club like it at the moment having read all the posts yesterday!

Just listened to the PDC post-match interview again. It's hard to see how he and Bodin can both stay at the club unless somebody builds a bridge between them. When Sir William Patey was appointed I had a concern that, as a non-executive chairman, he would not be around very often to provide a link between PDC and the board. That concern now seems well founded. PDC said there's no longer a point of reference. Maybe there is an element of bitterness because of his friend JW's sacking but that is neither here nor there. The chairman must make himself available - now. Otherwise we will head into deep sh1t.
.
Very disturbing to hear of the Wilson rabble damaging a hotel, the club being fined £5,000 and the police getting involved. It's now clear that those players were completely out of control. "Don't worry Mr Chairman, we'll win the next two games." Yeah, right.

Den, I can see your mind set and there does seem to be a gap now between manager and chairman.
The removal of Wray was for reasons various but a few of us said at the time it left the manager isolated. I hoped that Patey would build bridges but my information is he is very busy on the redevelopment front and talking to potential investors. Ouir manager is Italian and very out spoken, he and Wray are still very close friends and Wray still comes to home games, I don't know about the aways.I think our manager somehow feels devalued or cheated on by Wrays removal, we will know what and when maybe when he decides to leave, until then all we can do is guess.

Jock/malkym,

I don't think I've been any harsher than your constant tirade against Collins and Williams, in fact from chastising Williams some time ago I'm now convinced his input is first class and would play him as a winger, because he is very good as a wide man, superb in fact. Collins will get better. As goes praise for the manager, well up until today our recent form over the last ten games hasn't been outstanding including a string of 1-0 defeats which we could have done without. Today I'm very pleased as we won and hope more wins come in the New Year as this side settles, but Bostocks loan runs out in January and I am hopeful we can extend it. The January window, as with many teams, will decide our season, especially if we get some money, and that IF maybe the deciding factor on many fronts as I see things right now. What we want and what we may get could be poles apart, I sincerely hope not.

I found the last bit of PDC's comment a bit worrisome. JWray's departure was most unfortunate - best chairman we've had in the 55 years I've been supporting the Town by a country mile. And it sounds as though our diplomatic friend is far too busy with the commercial side to bother developing a relationship with his manager, let alone with the fans. We all suspect that Jeremy got the heave-ho because Andrew Black saw him as too close to Paolo, too careless with the money, and not focused enough on the commercial side. Too bad the powers that be didn't just hire someone to deal with the redevelopment, and put a leash on spending, while leaving JWray in place. As it is, the strained relationsship between our manager and the board doesn't bode well for the future. Hope I'm wrong, and in any event, great three points today.

Brilliant post match interview. Reminds me of interview Mourinho gave just after sacking at Chelsea, incredibly passionate stuff. With the Rome thing clarified and massive credit and respect for that, totally unprecedented, it's days like this that some of us that criticise him will jump for joy and say ...yes..he 'is' a 'special' one and maybe we've got it wrong about him. But in the same instance I still really fear that he could be doing irrepairable damage to the club. Paolo v Bodin ..... it really worries me.

southside, I think your post sums up the enigma that is PDC. He can be inspirational one minute and have you banging your head against the wall the next. I don't know where the Chairman is now but I would hope he'll be at the County Ground in the very near future.

I think Friday night could be a turning point for our season, a good win over the league leaders will set us up for 2013 to go on and win the league.
From all the posts about Paolo, which IMO the vast majority support him we need to really get behind the team, whichever eleven start and also show our support to one of the best, if not the best, manager we have had.
With Paolo pulling this club along (by the throat!) he will take us to the next level and when he leaves (not too soon please) we will be a more professional club and able to challenge at whatever level we are competing at.

Yes, lack of Patey interviews lately and the digs towards him from Paolo are very reminiscent of Paolo's previous fallouts with clubs, particularly Celtic where he said he could no longer work with traitors or something of that ilk. We may be heading for a big showdown of some sort and with the Tranmere game being one of the biggest of the season it could be one hell of a ride this week.....breathtakin

Dreamo, I've already got the bet on and on today's dispaly I won't be screwing up my ticket.

We looked a country mile above Oldham and it was puzzling how they have done so well recently.

I totally agree that Paolo can get us up with this squad. If only he would stick to that objective?

His post match interview on the BBC was very accurate and measured. So, please Paolo, just leave it at that and not all the other rubbish about 'hostile environments' and taking a pop a the youth team. Why do this?

I just don't understand the point he is trying to make?

On the basis of today's performance and Paolo's post match interview I would happily jump back into the Paolo camp. But there seems to be a war of attrition going on withn the club. That's what is worrying us all.

Time for others at the club to say their peice me thinks or, indeed, as many of the posters on here think, let Paolo get on with it.

I think he wants Bodin out so he can appoint his choice in there instead so giving him greater control, its all politics.
If he got that he would have a big stick to shake at the board, the big obstacle being, Bodin is very well thought of at board level.
In the "rant" earlier in the week our manager spoke of his deliberation over leaving, but its not clear as to whether the choice was offered by the board, if it was did they have somebody lined up to step in. A lot of politics right now as January approaches, and he has had his budget, so what next ? Its OK to say we will have "Austin money", but how much and when, if Austin doesn't go until late in the window, then all the better choices will have gone and the donkeys will be left. That puts any manager in a difficult situation, let alone one with an eye on promotion.
The next two weeks could be very interesting, but all the public rants are surely not doing his CV any good at all, despite his better side.

That concern now seems well founded. PDC said there's no longer a point of reference. Maybe there is an element of bitterness because of his friend JW's sacking but that is neither here nor there. Jock/malkym, I don't think I've been any harsher than your constant tirade against Collins and Williams, in fact from chastising Williams some time ago I'm now convinced his input is first class and would play him as a winger, because he is very good as a wide man, superb in fact.
Constant tirade? why aren't you berating Grim for the same reasons then? Fact - they're both not good enough IMO and if my maths is right haven't reached double figures between them? (league im talking about). Afraid I don't see Williams as a winger and to me you contradict yourself - the string of 1-0 defeats? Well if WC had had their shooting boots on they wouldn't have been losses would they?

Still happy to be proved wrong, but the clock is surely ticking for them both, and also Martin to date doesn't appear to be the answer? Don't buy "well they hit the post 3 times" a miss is a miss. Williams is incapable of taking on the keeper in one to ones -and I'm not the only one who has made that comment on here.

jayden, the real concern (from my point of view anyway) is not for Paul Bodin but for the club. You have a much better idea than me about his managing and coaching achievements. I don't know whether he's brilliant, useless or somewhere in between. I think some people will take his side regardless of what they know (or don't know), and some people will never hear a word against PDC.
The only thing I am convinced of is the need to get the problem resolved quickly. It's a recipe for disaster to have the first team manager and the youth team coach at loggerheads.

Malkym,

I know they are not scoring, and I totally accept that, but, I still think things can pan out given a longer run in the team. The manager that so many adore also sees that obviously, or he wouldn't be playing them now would he. Up till now I agree, their goal scoring has been dour, but most agree that Williams brings a lot more to the game than just being the goalscorer. Collins is still finding his feet, and with the almost constant rotation of faces around him the guy doesn't know what to expect. I suspect our manager will either stick with them in January or both will be shipped out, but January is notorious as being the time when most clubs want to keep their best players, so what would we get or better still who ?
I'm not convinced by Martin and Hollands as I've only seen bits of them in the period they have been here, too early to judge.
Any road, I'm busy now for a bit, looking forwards to Friday, lots to do today, so I'll leave it there for now.

BTW, Have A Good Christmas, whether we agree on the footie or not, I bear no ill feelings we are all Town and Football supporters and want the same thing irrespective of which club we follow.

I'm not convinced by Martin and Hollands as I've only seen bits of them in the period they have been here, too early to judge. Any road, I'm busy now for a bit, looking forwards to Friday, lots to do today, so I'll leave it there for now. BTW, Have A Good Christmas, whether we agree on the footie or not, I bear no ill feelings we are all Town and Football supporters and want the same thing irrespective of which club we follow. the wizard

Wiz, I agree with you. If Williams and Collins were making minimal contributions - like, say, Pericard or Magera - I wouldn't hesitate to agree with Malk, but they're not. They run their socks off and they help us to keep or win the ball, contributing hugely to our good defensive record. The service to them has not been good generally so far this season. I don't think either of them has missed that many really good chances.
.
We have a decent squad but have underperformed on too many occasions this season. I can't help thinking that this is because of the problems behind the scenes and the lack of a settled side. If Sir William gets his finger out quickly, I believe we will become more consistent - and Malk's gruesome twosome's goal return will improve.
.
Malk, I'll be in touch about golf (23rd)later today or tomorrow. Timings should be sorted out today. Let me know if you can't make it or don't fancy it. Apologies to everyone else for hijacking this forum!

Den,
Thanks for that, as a point of debate and nothing else, I'd rather keep Collins and Williams as opposed to Miller and Navarro. Thoughts ??

jayden, the real concern (from my point of view anyway) is not for Paul Bodin but for the club.
Den it will be sorted in the next few months as P.Bodin contract expires on 30 of june and remember it was given to him by J.W he had no contract before that .

I suppose we've coped OK so far but can't help thinking we'd be doing even better with a happy ship, so I reckon it would be better if it was sorted sooner than in a few months. I imagine it was a condition of PDC getting the job that PB was kept on as youth team coach.

Very much with Den on this. It has been an obvious problem for some time and one where the Chairman must try hard to find the best resolution for the club. I don't know what that is but the status quo is at best unhealthy. One of my other ongoing concerns is our scouting system. I was up in Ipswich recently when the local press was running an article on the scouts being appointed by McCarthy. Seen as critical to the club when you might argue that they have pressing first team problems.I'm not having a go at our approach because I just don't know what it is. Beyond the Samsung competition are we searching for the next Charlie Austin? Much as JWray was a great communicator with the fans these sort of issues were developing under his tenure and need to be tackled. I think Paolo will get us to the Championship but good quality scouting and development will be essential to our staying there.

Well that's all I have to say, on the football matters, but would like to say to some of the moaners on here . No doubt a few Pox fans doing the wind ups but a few Town fans who would rather it seems go back to the days of Hart, Malpas and the Manager who can not control his players yet again Wilson shocking behaviour at Sheff Utd. Just imagine what its like supporting Brizzle shity, the Gas, or worse still the Blue Square destined Pox at this moment in time..
Some so called fans will never realize what they have until they loose it. Paolo is KING.
Hello Mike,

Seasons greetings to you and yours. I wondered if you were going to the game yesterday as it's more in your neck of the woods than mine. I'm quite surprised that Raffa hasn't been used as a striker as that is his preferred role and position prior to coming to Town. That leaves the left wing position, for which I would put in Ritchie as he essentially is a left winger, and then utilise Williams as the wide right man, a position where I think he could flourish. Up front that would still leave Collins, Storey or Hollands to fill the other slot. Raffa has the nose for a goal and while he is scoring them why not use his experience ? It seems almost rude not to.

You are so right, Wilson took abuse for being too soft and when someone, PDC, says 'Hay, im the boss, do what i say' everyone says hes a bully and is upsetting the players !!!
Well said mikek

Mikek you're totally wrong...... Paolo is our Emperor not our king! Top post well said.

Thank you again to Coral's for 11/8 yesterday, my biggest bet for years has set Christmas up nicely. Good to hear MancRobin doesn't want to screw his betting slip up despite wanting a change in Manager!

I'm off with Grim at the end of the season to collect our winnings. We've still got a manager non of the players want to play for, terrible medical options, poor discipline and work ethic. Here comes Santa with another three points Friday...

Den - I'm still up for that -will wait to hear from you.

Back to the footie -up to a point I agree about W &C's contributions re effort. However they should be contributing to the defensive record by putting the ball in the onion bag more often shouldn't they?. Granted they've had what you might describe as mediocre service to date but like I said how much longer do they get to prove their worth and tey've missed some sitters!? Does Paolo stick with them whatever -not look around in the window? I don't blame him for their misfiring - they both had good track records prior to joining.

RE service to the forwards - I wasn't impressed initally by Miller & Navarro but since they've been out and Miller perhaps more so we've been lacking although Bostock fits in here but he's not a given to stay.

Here's to 3 points on Friday as our pressie from Town and I'll take this opportunity to wish all - and I do mean all posters a fabulous Christmas for them and theirs, a healthy and prosperous 2013 and a second successive promotion for STFC and the enigma that is Paolo Di Canio rants, warts, leg waves, dances, passion, dugout punching and kicking and all.

A few people on here talking of Raffa as a main striker and some saying it should be with Storey. My opinion is that he is not physically strong enough and if partnered by Storey we would be too light weight. I couldn't imagine us scoring 4 with the two of them upfront against the yeovil Flint lookalikes.

A strikers job is more than sticking the ball in the net these days. The have to take the hits, receive the ball, lay it off, defend from the front, defend corners, as well as try to stick it the net. Gone are the days when a team lost the ball the strikers would wait for the next attack.

Martin and Williams did this (except the goals) perfectly against Donny and as a result we dominated the game. Heskey was never a prolific scorer but I doubt there are many that would have not liked to hae seen him in a Town shirt as his other qualities made up for the lack of goals.

IMO Raffa is in the perfect postion for his attributes and the reason he has done so well is because he is playing there (he attacks the far post so well).
