TOWN striker Michael Smith is hoping to be a machine in front of goal this season after picking up a new nickname.

After showing his mettle in a pre-season bootcamp, assistant manager Luke Williams has decided to give the young forward the alternative name ‘The Terminator’.

The Geordie has rubbed off his former nickname ‘Smudge’ for the more aggressive tag which he hopes will strike fear into the defenders he will come up against this campaign.

“This is Luke Williams, he’s come up with the nickname The Terminator,” Smith said.

“I don’t know where it’s come from to be fair, it happened in the army camp.

“One of the army blokes said ‘he’s the Geordie machine’ or something, so that might be where it’s come from.”

Smith, who joined from Charlton in January, has shown his super-human abilities already this season, playing throw the pain after picking up a shoulder injury.

The 22-year-old, who has been on a seven-game drought in front of goal, hopes that he’ll be back to scoring ways soon.
