ROYAL Wootton Bassett need to get into the right frame of mind if they are to be a title winning side come the end of the season.

The club, coached by Alan Low, have a 100 per cent record at home, but have yet to score a point on the road and are looking for some more consistency.

Fortunately for Low he has another home game against Thatcham, following their 85-3 demolition of Milton Keynes last weekend.

The visitors come into the game sitting third in the Southern Counties North, three places above Bassett, but Low believes his side has what it takes to leapfrog them.

“They’re a side who like to play their rugby and have scored a few tries this year from driven line-outs, so that is something we have been addressing this week,” said Low.

“From when we went up there we know they are a beatable side.

“We went up there last game of the year last year with a scratch side due to a stag do and with two minutes to go I think we were two points down.

“They do like to play their rugby and it is certainly a game that we should be looking to win at home.”

Low believes his side are capable of challenging for the league, if not this season then next, but knows his side must improve on their travels if they are to become a credible threat to the top.

“First and foremost we want to look at our home form, the bit that would make a league winning side – which we are looking to be by the end of the season or looking into next season – is winning the majority of our games away from home as well,” the coach added.

“First and foremost we have to look to impose ourselves at home but then really start to pick up the league form away from home.

“Our start has been up and down really, away from home it has been frustrating, both Drifters and Marlow, they’re both sides at the top of the league, we haven’t performed as well as I know we can.

“All the boys know all these games are winnable we need to pick up that attitude away from home once the whistle blows.

“It’s a top two inches thing really and we’ve got to get our minds right.”
