COLCHESTER United boss Tony Humes had indicated that he has a game plan to take advantage of Swindon’s expansive style of play.

Having watched a good footballing side in Rochdale visit the County Ground on Tuesday night and aim to stop Town playing by withdrawing into their own half, Mark Cooper said he hoped the U’s would come and play.

Colchester are a side that have been playing good football since Humes’ appointment – but the Community Stadium chief admitted Cooper’s side are more elaborate than his team.

Though it seems the Essex side will not completely abandon their principles, the U’s boss does seem to have a trick up his sleeve.

“Swindon are an out-and-out football team,” said Humes.

“They’re probably a little bit more expansive than we are, in terms of how they play. They want to play football in the right way - they want to pass it and they want to move.

“If both teams perform on Saturday, it should be a cracking game.

“They probably take a few more risks with the ball coming out from the back but that’s how they play.

“We play out from the back too but they play a different formation with three centre-halves.

“They do take a few risks and we’ll try and capitalise on that if we can.

“We know how we will try and upset them - it depends on what they do after a home defeat.

“Will they change personnel? We’ll see on the day but we know what personnel we’re going to use.”

At half-time in their dramatic late win over Chesterfield on Tuesday, on-loan Cardiff City striker Rhys Healey was introduced at half-time to great effect.

The 19-year-old scored within five minutes of coming on and has pushed himself into contention for the first XI for today’s game.

“Rhys (Healey) is pushing for a start,” Humes added.

“He’s shown that he’s a good player, who has got good movement and fits the role of the centre-forward.

“I’m really pleased with Rhys and it gives us good selection problems for the weekend.

“We’ll look at how Swindon play and he comes into contention.

“It depends on how we want to go and play against Swindon and their formation.

“George (Moncur, withdrawn for Healey at half-time) was disappointed when he came off the other night but it’s part of his learning and part and parcel of the game.

“We needed to change something because Freddie (Sears) wasn’t getting a lot of the ball and we needed someone to get closer to the centre-forward.”
