JOHN Fisher wants Highworth Town to carry their phenomenal cup form into the league when they travel to Flackwell Heath this evening.

Highworth have booked a place in the last 32 of the FA Vase and Wiltshire Cup semi-finals over the past two weekends with wins over Blackfields & Langley and Melksham Town respectively.

But that has impacted their ambitions in the league as Highworth have played just three games in that competition since the end of October, dropping into the mid-table as a result.

Fisher’s side now face a crunch game at Flackwell, who are one place above them, before Saturday’s visit to table-topping Kidlington.

“It’s a big game and it’s a must win if we want to keep ourselves going in the league,” said Fisher.

“We are dropping down the table at the moment as we haven’t been playing games.

“Flackwell are a decent side, so it’s going to be a difficult trip. They have been very similar to us this season and are also in the last 32 of the FA Vase, which means they haven’t played many league games either.

“Although they are only one place above us it’s also four points, so if they win they’ll be miles ahead.

“I always said these four games were going to be big for keeping our season going. We’ve won two already and now it’s two massive league games next. If we can get six points I’ll be delighted.”

Fisher is sweating over the fitness of top scorer TJ Bohane ahead of tonight’s game.

Bohane was on target as Highworth came from two goals down to bag a 3-2 extra-time win over Melksham in the Wiltshire Cup quarter-finals but limped off before the final whistle.

“TJ got a couple of whacks on Saturday and I ended up having to take him off towards the end,” said Fisher.

“He’s a strong lad and hopefully he’ll be OK to play against Flackwell.

“Everyone else is available to play, as far as I know – but that’s just as long as they haven’t got injured playing for their Sunday teams.”
