SKIPPER Adam Westall was delighted to set the record straight as Swindon romped to an impressive 35-7 victory at Devizes last weekend.

Swindon were hammered 42-19 on their last visit to London Road back in April, and with Wiltshire bragging rights also on the line, the visitors were not short of motivation.

Fly-half Westall led the charge for Swindon with a brace of tries, while Mark Chatwin, Tom Mannion and Mike Thompson all got themselves over the whitewash as well.

The bonus-point success maintains Swindon’s excellent start to the season and they remain fourth in the South West 1 East table with just one game to go before the Christmas break.

“Last year we went down there and got an absolute hiding near the end of the season,” said Westall.

“We were looking to get a bit of revenge as I don’t think we did ourselves justice in that game, so we’re delighted to get the win.

“And with it also being a Wiltshire derby it makes the result that little bit sweeter as well.

“We were expecting a tough game and we knew we’d have a real battle on our hands, and that’s what happened.

“They have got a very good coach and a few good lads in their team. I think they maybe had a few injury problems but who hasn’t at this stage of the year?

“You have to get your mindset right when you go away from home and ours was spot on on Saturday. We targeted a five-point win and that’s exactly what we got.”

The result also saw Swindon make a swift return to winning ways following the previous defeat at home to league leaders Chippenham.

Westhall revealed some tough lessons had been learned against the champions elect.

“The Chippenham game was a bit of a cup final for us. They are top of the league and unbeaten, and we were underdogs which is how we like it,” said Westhall.

“Although we gave a good account of ourselves they showed what it takes to get to the top of the league and took their chances really well, whereas we didn’t.

“We were much more clinical against Devizes and that showed in the result.”
