DAVID Howell’s disappointing start to the new European Tour season continued this morning after he failed to make the cut for the second week in a row.

Swindon ace Howell could only shoot a two-over 74 in round two of the Qatar Masters to finish three-over-par overall, four shots adrift of the cut line.

The Broome Manor pro was looking to get back into red figures in Doha after a one-over-par score in the first round and got off to a flier with a birdie at the first.

Howell was hindered by a bogey at the fourth hole but was swiftly back level for the tournament with another birdie on the seventh.

But Howell’s round came unstuck with a run of three bogeys in a row through holes 11 to 13 and he was unable to recover his score before the finish.

South African duo George Coetzee and Branden Grace, and Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger lead the way in Qatar, finishing their second rounds on nine-under-par.

Howell also missed the cut at his first tournament of the year at last week’s Abu Dhabi Golf Championships and will be looking for a big improvement at the Dubai Desert Classic, which gets under way next Thursday.
