KELVIN Young looks set to be on a collision course with Southampton fighter Chris Hobbs for the vacant British Masters light-heavyweight title.

Unbeaten Hobbs took to social media to announce the bout today, which is scheduled to take place at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth on Saturday, March 28.

Hobbs posted on Twitter: “I’ll be stepping up in level of opponent when I face former Southern Area champ Kelvin Young! This will be a cracker!”

Swindon ace Young is looking for a strong 2015 in the ring after defeat in a non-title bout to Kiril Psonko cost him his IBO Inter-Continental super-middleweight title back in November.

Before the proposed bout against Hobbs, Young makes his first return to the ring since that defeat when he takes on Joe Walsh at the World Awaits show at the Oasis Leisure Centre on Friday, February 13.

Walsh has been drafted in as a replacement for James Child, who has been forced to withdraw from the contest.

When contacted by the Adver, Young did not want to be drawn on any possible fight against Hobbs and is instead focussed on his next bout.

“I think the British Board have withdrawn James’ licence. I’m not too sure why, so we’ve had to go in another direction,” said Young.

“I think this is a tougher fight but I am happy with it.

“The main objective is to get back in the ring and get back to winning ways again.

“I’ve had to change opponents on a number of occasions before and you’ve just got to take it as it comes.

“I’ve been training really hard and done lots of running and I’m ready to get back in there.

“From what I’ve seen of Joe he likes to come and have a go. I think his last fight was at cruiserweight and he only lost by one round.

“He’s a tough fighter but I’m confident.”

Meanwhile trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick is on the search for a new opponent for his boxer Eamonn O’Kane at the World Awaits show.

The Northern Irish boxer was set to face Frankie Borg but the Welshman has pulled out of the fight on health grounds.

Fitzpatrick has already begun looking for a replacement for the headline act and is promising a fight that the Swindon public can get excited about.

“It’s boxing, nothing surprises me and nothing bothers me we will have another opponent soon,” he said.

“We’re on it now. I have already turned down a guy who offered me with 30 fights who only has a few more wins than losses and that is not what we want, we want a winning record.

“Eamonn is a good fighter and we want a good opponent.

“We want somebody who is coming here to win, we don’t want some guy with a losing record.

“He is the main event and we want a fight. Eamonn has been flattered by the way everyone in Swindon has received him.

“Eamonn is a really proud man and he does not want to be given an opponent, he wants to be pushed in a fight.

“He wants the people of Swindon to come out and see a fight and get what they paid for.

“It’s not a big deal it happens all the time and we will get around it.”
