SHRIVENHAM could only come away with a 1-1 draw against Bracknell Town despite having the ball in the back of the net three times.

The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes at Barrington Park to leave manager Sam Collier fearing the worst as his side fight to remain in the Premier Division.

However it was the manager that restored parity five minutes later after Matt Bown was brought down in the box, and Collier stepped up and converted from 12 yards out.

The home side could have gone on to win the game in the second half but the referee twice ruled out goals for Collier’s side before John Reese saw an effort cannon off both posts and cleared away to safety with just five minutes left in the game.

“It was a very good performance and the lads were right at it yesterday and I was thoroughly pleased but disappointed we didn’t take all three points really,” said Collier, whose side still sit one place off the bottom and nine points adrift of Brimscombe & Thrupp a place above them.

“We went 1-0 down against the run of play and then we dominated proceedings onwards and we got back in the game.

“We had two goals disallowed. One of them was a foul on the goalie which was a bit dubious but the second one I don’t understand what was wrong with it, it was just disallowed to everyone’s amazement.

“I think we would have gone on and won the game comfortably if one of those had been allowed.

“In the second half we had a couple of good chances that we didn’t take.

“John Reese has had a couple of good opportunities and he also hit both posts from 35 yards in the last five minutes and that is when you think it is not going to be our day.

“The important thing is that after getting back into the game by half time we didn’t lose it and we didn’t.”

Meanwhile it was a day to forget for Wotton Bassett Town as they lost 4-1 away to Thame United, with defender Steve Yeardley getting the only goal for the visitors.
