AFC Tap & Barrel boss David Shephard will not be jumping the gun when it comes to his side’s potential Division Three title celebrations.

Tap moved within a point of league leaders Cleeve Tech with a hard-fought 2-1 win at home to FS Swindon on Sunday.

They now look favourites to win the league as Cleeve have played all their games while Tap still have three fixtures remaining.

However, Real Rodbourne remain a big threat to Tap’s chances of finishing top of the pile as although they are four points back, they have two matches in hand on Shephard’s men.

“I’m not worried about Cleeve Tech but it’s not quite in our hands,” said Shephard.

“It’s between us and Rodbourne Real. They’ve played fewer games than us, so we will need someone to do us a favour.

“FS Swindon pushed us really hard at the weekend and they’ve promised they will try to do the same with Rodbourne when they play them.

“We’ve got three games left and they will be tricky but I’m very confident that, with the mood we are in at the moment, we can win them all.

“The fat lady might not be signing yet but hopefully she’s starting to clear her throat.”

Tap had to do it the hard way against FS Swindon as they were forced to come from behind to claim all three points.

The visitors took the lead inside the opening quarter of an hour but Adam Devine ensured honours were even at the break when he scored direct from a corner.

Tap then got themselves in front 20 minutes into the second period when Ryan Phillips found the net and that was how it stayed until the final whistle.

Shephard added: “I’m extremely pleased. FS Swindon came out and gave us the hardest game we’ve had this season.

“We dominated the first half and probably should have scored three or four goals.

“We conceded through a deflected free-kick but the goal Adam scored was superb - it was a great curling strike from a corner.

“That gave us confidence at half-time but I knew FS Swindon would come out and get at us in the second half. They didn’t let up throughout the 90 minutes.

“I think we deserved the win but it was a really, really good game.”

Old Town United were big winners in the only Division Four contest of the day, romping to a 6-1 win away at Stratton Saints.

It was even better news for PSV Swindon in Division Five as they triumphed 6-0 on their trip to AFC Greendown.

Inter Sandgate booked their place in the final of the Chairman’s Trophy with a 5-2 victory against County Ground, and they will meet FC Abbey Meads after thier 2-0 success over DPR.
