JOHN Fisher has told his Highworth Town troops to have no regrets come the final whistle of the FA Vase semi-final second leg at North Shields tomorrow.

Fisher reckons the occasion got the better of some of his players in the first leg at The Elms a week ago, with Highworth slipping to a 1-0 loss.

They therefore have it all to do when battle resumes at Daren Persson Stadium and Fisher is just glad his side are still in with a shout of reaching the Wembley final.

“You have to give teams respect but I felt we gave them too much last week. I think some of the lads thought they were unbeatable and it wasn’t until the second half they really got into them,” said Fisher.

“In the second half we did really well as they lads realised that they were beatable. That gives us a bit of confidence to go up there with.

“We just have to go there and give it our best shot. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen, but we can’t have any regrets.

“If it had been only one game then I think a lot of our lads would have been sat in the bar afterwards with regrets. This is our second chance.

“That’s the good thing. The lads have still got a chance to show what they can do.”

Fisher will be opting for a cautious approach in the North East and will not be telling his troops to go out all guns blazing. Highworth do have to chase the game but Fisher says it is crucial they remain in the contest as long as possible in the hope that nerves set in for the home side.

The Worthians have come away with memorable wins at Blackfields & Langley, Tunbridge Wells, Bradford Town and Tadcaster Albion en route to the semis and Fisher knows his team have it in them to pull off one more shock result.

“We can’t be gung-ho, we have to go there and compete,” added Fisher.

“He (North Shields boss Graham Fenton) will be wanting them to get an early goal to kill the tie off, whereas we have to be sensible.

“If it’s 0-0 at half-time I’d take that as that puts a bit more pressure on them as they know we are still in it.

“Hopefully we can score early ourselves but we just have to make sure we’re still in it at half-time. If we are then we can go for it and gamble.

“It’s going to be difficult but then we haven’t done anything easily so far.”

Brad Clark went off injured in the closing stages of Saturday’s first leg but Fisher thinks he will be fit to retain his place in the side. Highworth have no other injury concerns ahead of the long trip north.

Fisher added: “It’s a 90-minute shoot-out from Wembley, that’s how we have to approach it.

“I was watching the Bristol City game on TV last week and I said to the wife I’m 90 minutes from there, it doesn’t look bad does it?”
