SWINDON TOWN: Cup heartbreak for Town youngsters
10:20pm Monday 12th February 2007 in Local
SWINDON Town's FA Youth Cup run came to a heartbreaking end with an agonising extra time defeat.
Newcastle United pinched a 2-1 quarter-final victory in front of 2,327 fans at the County Ground when Andy Carroll headed in from a 118th-minute corner.
The visitors had gone ahead after 28 minutes through Ryan Donaldson.
Lukas Jutkiewicz equalised on 69 minutes with a brilliant individual effort, chesting a bouncing ball and lashing home a low drive from 25 yards.
Town captain Chris Allen was harshly sent off for a second booking at the start of extra time and Newcastle finally made the extra man tell when Carroll pounced at the death.
