SWINDON Town are going to be training on the County Ground pitch for much of their play-off preparation.

Last week Town uprooted from their previous training location at Liddington because the pitches were proving unsafe due to their hardness. Instead the Beversbrook facility near Calne being was used for match preparation.

The assumption was Town would train at Beversbrook in the short-term whilst a permanent base was developed. With training now moved to the County Ground it would appear arrangements are yet to be settled with Beversbrook.

In the meantime the first team will train on their home pitch, a move boss Mark Cooper is sure will upset groundsman Marcus Cassidy.

However with only two home games remaining it is a good low-cost option with minimal impact.

Cooper told the local media: “We’re going to train at the County Ground for the next couple of days – Marcus is over the moon about that.

“We’ve got to try to get the best out of the last few training sessions.

“The pitch is the main thing. We can water it, we can have it at the length we want, soft and we’re not travelling everywhere, so it keeps everything normal.”

Cooper was effusive in his praise for the staff at Beversbrook and revealed talks over a short-term solution to the training ground issue were still on-going.

“They’ve looked after us. They’ve gone out on a limb to try to look after us,” he added.

“I think things are still ongoing with where we’re going to train for next year.”
