SWINDON will be out to rock the Glos/Wilts league leaders when they play host this weekend.

Andy Staff’s side will be looking to reverse their fortunes against Rockhampton, having lost by four wickets on the opening game of the season in the penultimate over.

However the Swindon skipper believes his side are in a much better position to trouble the table-toppers this time out, despite suffering a setback against Frenchay last weekend.

“We had a good game against them in the first game of the season and I think we lost with seven balls to go,” said Staff, who welcomes back Matt Drake and Liam Tucker to his side.

“They lost a few weeks ago as well, so we feel it is a good game to have. It is a strong league and there is not actually a lot of difference between anyone.

“Frenchay were eighth, before we played them, and they now they are up to sixth.

“Hopefully, this time we can play them and reverse that, especially at our place.

“We fancy our chances against anyone. Hopefully, a couple of the mistakes from Saturday can be put right this week.”

At the halfway point of the season, Swindon find themselves in mid-table but Staff knows that his side only need a couple of wins to climb the leaderboard.

While the Swindon captain is happy with how his team have performed he would like to see more consistency in their game.

“At the start of the season we would have liked to have been pushing a little higher. We are mid-table, which we are happy with,” he added.

“We have had a bit of an inconsistent start to the season, with availability not helping.

“As a result of the new players coming in and out, some of our performances have been a little bit inconsistent.

“When we have been good, we have been really good. As a squad, I think we have performed as well as we could.

“We are averaging two or three players missing each week, for different reasons, but I think that is modern day cricket.

“We’re halfway and we didn’t get off to a great start, so if we can show what we have done in the last six games going into the last nine games then we should be a place or two higher.

“We’ve lost two of our last seven games, so we are in some quite good form and you just hope to continue that.

“We’re relatively happy but a bit more consistency would be good.”
