YOUNG Swindon speedster Max Cook is well on course to land the Aprilia Superteens Challenge title after a clean sweep of victories at the latest round of the series at Rockingham.

The 12-year-old qualified on pole for all four races in the two-day meet at the Northamptonshire circuit at the weekend and went on to deliver sublime performances in the subsequent races.

Despite having to battle it out in heavy rain, Cook proved he is a master in the wet conditions and took the chequered flag every time for his KJD Racing team.

Those heroics saw took the Isambard School pupil take his number of race wins to 12 so far this season and he now has a hefty 151-point cushion at the top of the championship standings with 12 races across three meetings left to go.

Cook has so far collected an impressive haul of 462 points from the 18 races he has completed this term, finishing on the podium every time.

Charlie Atkins is his nearest challenger on 311 points, just ahead of Freddie Craine in third on 305.

The Superteens Challenge is a championship for young racers aged between 12 and 19 and is seen as first step to professional circuit racing.

Previous competitors include two-time MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner, as well as current riders Bradley Smith and Cal Crutchlow.

Rookie Cook enjoyed a superb start to his season, winning three of four races on his debut in the event in the championship’s first round at Brands Hatch back in March.

He took the top step of the podium once at the next meet at Donington Park and although there were no victories in round three at Snetterton, he won twice next time out at Cadwell Park before tasting another double success at Oulton Park at the end of June.

Cook will return to action at round seven of the series at Anglesey Trac Mon in Wales on August 29-31.
