SWINDON Wildcats captain Jan Kostal will not want to pay the penalty when they face in-form Telford Tigers at home this weekend.

The Cats fell short of picking up a second perfect weekend on the bounce last Sunday when they fell to a 4-3 defeat on the road at Bracknell Bees.

Whilst disappointed with the loss, Kostal took plenty of positives from the game and knows his side can build on the performance.

“I think we lost a really hard game and we were unlucky because we had a lot of chances,” said Kostal reflecting back on the Bracknell defeat.

“Their goalie was like a magic man.

“I think maybe in the second period we were a little bit flat but the first and second period were good from us.

“I think we played well and Heds (Jordan Hedley) in goal played well and they had some lucky scores.

“We were losing the game 3-0 so it was excellent from us to get back into the game but they were luckier than we were.

“We must now look forward and learn from our mistakes.”

Now Aaron Nell’s side face a Telford side who have won their last three games and Kostal is warning his players to be disciplined.

Despite Swindon being top of the rankings in both powerplay kills, with an impressive 88.5 per cent success rate, and top of powerplay goals, with 30.4 per cent, Kostal is wary of last season’s champions, who sit third in the powerplay rankings with 26.1 per cent.

“We have won three of our last four games and we must take that into this weekend,” added the Swindon skipper.

“We have Telford at home, who are really good, and we must play the same game like we did against Manchester with good D.

“They are very good in powerplays so the key will not be giving so many penalties away at home.

“I know that we are really good at penalty kill, but they have the good guys to score and if we keep it five on five then that will be important.

“Sunday we play Hull and we must be looking forward and not have our heads down.

“I know that Hull are low but they are a danger too and the last time we played them at their rink I think we won in overtime so we must work hard from the first minute.

“We must play like a team and we will be successful. It is about hard work and when we play hard we must be successful.”
