SWINDON Wildcats D-Man Callum Buglass said there were plenty of positives to take from their performance against Guildford Flames moving forward.

Having pulled themselves back from a two-goal deficit in the first period, Buglass said they believed it was only a matter of time before they would take the lead.

However, it was Guildford that stole the advantage with 10 minutes left to go and the Flames went on to secure the contest 4-2 in the dying seconds.

“I’m disappointed with the defeat,” said Buglass.

“We did play well and we thought, myself included, that when it was 2-2 we had it and we would be the ones to score next.

“Even when they went 3-2 up everyone believed that we were getting the next goal and it just didn’t come for us.

“They always knew that we would come firing out of the blocks and were looking to pounce when we made a little mistake and it happened twice and showed.

“They have players who are paid that much to get on the mistakes and finish those chances so we have just got to limit those mistakes.

“We were unlucky but we played really well.”

Despite having the old heads of Stevie Lyle, Neil Liddiard and Jan Kostal, the average age of Saturday’s roster was just 25.3, with seven players aged 20 or younger.

Buglass is thankful for the belief the side have shown in their youthful players and knows it is down to them to pay that back in results.

“I’m feeling good,” he added.

“Obviously with Matt Selby out the rest of us have got to step up and play the big minutes.

“We obviously can’t wait for him to be back because he is a big part of this team, but you can’t rush him back.

“The team brought us young players here to develop us and they are giving us the chance to prove ourselves.

“We are only going to learn with game time. We will make the odd mistake and we can’t get too down on ourselves, we have just got to play hard for the team and see what we can do.

“It is important to the future of this team and the only way we can pay them back is through good performances.”
