SWINDON Town boss Luke Williams is eager to tie up any loose ends regarding which players will remain at the County Ground next season as soon as possible.

Having been appointed as head coach on a five-year contract in early March, Williams is looking towards his first summer as Town chief and all the planning and preparation that entails.

A number of players are out of contract in the summer, although many of those have options for the club to extend their deals for a further season.

Strikers Michael Smith and Jonathan Obika are two such players but both have already stated that they expect to be reporting back to Town for pre-season.

Swindon’s retained list for 2016-17 is likely to be released not long after the final match of the current League One season, with Town bringing the curtain down on their campaign when they face Shrewsbury Town at the County Ground on Sunday.

Williams knows what the future is for the majority of his players and is still weighing up options on a few others, but says he does not want those decisions hanging over his head for too long.

“I think some players we know their future. Others; we are not so sure and we have to wait,” Williams told BBC Wiltshire.

“Certainly, some we know that won’t be with us and some we know that almost definitely will.

“Then it is just about cleaning up the in-betweens, the ones that potentially might leave the club in the summer.”
