SWINDON Robins spread their wings once again as they saw off the Lakeside Hammers tonight to rack up a third successive Elite League victory.

Home captain Jason Doyle shone on the night as he produced a faultless display whilst his team-mates also enjoyed themselves as they continued their impressive recent form.

Charles Wright gated brilliantly in the opening heat of the night but after letting Doyle pass, he was chased down by his captain’s fellow GP competitor Andreas Jonsson and had to settle for third-place.

In the second, Rohan Tungate picked up where he left off following his fine performance in Monday’s fine win at Coventry Bees as he dominated the first reserve battle of the meeting whilst Nieslen got the better of Lewis Kerr to rack up another 4-2 win for the hosts.

But Lakeside hit back and quickly soothed the pain of their early setback, with Kim Nilsson and Lewis Bridger, and Richard Lawson and Kerr combining to hand the Essex men successive 4-2 victories in heats three and four, tying things up at 12-12.

Swindon hit back in heat five with the first major blow of the night, Tungate romping to victory from the gate whilst Wright held off the dogged challenge of Mear to clinch a 5-1 triumph.

Maximums arrived like buses for the Robins but at the start of the next heat, it looked like anybody’s race.

All four riders were neck-and-neck coming out of the second bend but Sedgmen somehow streaked away whilst Grajczonek held his nerve to inch ahead of Lakeside ace Jonsson to stretch Swindon’s lead to 22-14.

Doyle superbly found a way past Nilsson to win heat eight, which was drawn 3-3, and then the Hammers chucked the cat amongst the pigeons.

First, Mear won a fierce battle with Stefan Nielsen to back-up Piotr Swiderski’s victory in heat eight and then in heat nine, Lawson and Kerr dominated Tungate and Wright to chop Swindon’s lead to just two points.

But Morris and Grajczonek combined in the next race to produce a perfect response, with the duo almost simultaneously overtaking Jonsson in a pincer movement before streaking away to seal a home maximum, making it 33-27.

Doyle made it three wins from three with a sumptuous ride in heat 11 whilst Wright did well to stay on his bike after an unexpected wobble but the Swindon number two fell out of the reckoning as the spoils were shared.

Lady luck then turned her back on Nielsen in heat 12 as, with Tungate storming ahead of the pack, the youngster was consummately providing support in second place, only for his engine to pack up, denying an almost-certain maximum.

But the hammer blow was struck in heat 13 as Doyle’s flawless display rumbled on, with the Swindon skipper acres in front of the competition whilst Morris also left Jonsson and Bridger eating his dust to seal the Robins’ third 5-1 of the night, with the score standing at 44-34.

Grajczonek’s excellent chase-down of Nilsson in the penultimate race of the meeting prevented Lakeside from racking up a maximum.

But of course, the final say belonged to Doyle, who made it five wins from five in heat 15 as his side tasted victory once again.
