BATSMAN Joe Breet says complacency will not be an issue as Lechlade look to maintain their unbeaten start in Premier Two Glos/Wilts to the season on Saturday.

Freddie Martin’s side are sitting at the top of the table after victories in their opening two matches of the campaign, although rain robbed them of the chance to make it three in a row last weekend.

Lechlade take on a side whose form is at the opposite end of the spectrum this weekend as they travel to a Gloucester City Winget outfit who started the year with consecutive defeats before the widespread washout.

Although Breet has no doubt that Lechlade are more than capable of maintaining their flying form, he knows that a positive result is far from a guarantee.

“Last weekend was frustrating and those are the weekends that you want to play as you can make a bit of a move on the teams around you,” said Breet, who handed over the captaincy to Martin for the 2016 season.

“It’s still early days, we’re three games in and you don’t normally get a sense of where you really are until you are halfway through, but we’re very happy with the start we’ve made.

“Now we have a Gloucester side that are low on confidence, while we are high on confidence, so hopefully that bodes well for us.

“But we don’t underestimate anyone in this league. We know they are more than capable of getting a result and they will want to get that first win under their belts. We don’t get carried away, we just take it week by week.”

Lechlade have a full squad to pick from this weekend and Breet reckons keeping a settled XI together throughout the course of a season can have a major bearing on success.

“It’s not just at our club, it’s all clubs and all cricket, unavailability is the biggest issue,” said Breet.

“When we have our best XI out, we are confident we can be a match for anyone, but I am sure that is the case for a lot of clubs.

“We’ve actually got everyone available this weekend so hopefully that will help us get another good result.

“Freddie is actually in the middle of his exams this week but he is available to play and I’m sure the cricket will be a nice distraction.

“In a few weeks’ time he has it pretty easy, it’s not bad as a student just having cricket to worry about.

“Students don’t need any excuse to celebrate but hopefully we can have a good win for him.”
